Notoriously Morbid April 2016 Vanishing Cabinet Swatches & Review

As I rapidly approach being two years behind on Vanishing Cabinets (yikes!), the need to redouble my efforts is a much-needed kick up the butt, a scenario which seems to summarize my blogging life in general right now! Blogging with small children has always been a challenge but now that my youngest is mobile enough to cause mischief, yet not old enough for sustained play with her brothers, I find the whole blogging lark more of a strain than a joy. Coupled with my recent crusade to complete a lot of handmade Christmas gifts (while underestimating how long cross stitch patterns take to complete, to a laughable degree), I seem to be permanently hovering around the burnt out zone. Frankly, this sucks, as blogging does give me a lot of joy when I have more time for it, and while I keep toying with the idea of stopping altogether, I find that I really don't want to. So for now, I think I'll take things one day at a time, try not to be too hard on myself and keep working on finding that elusive balance.

So, the April 2016 Vanishing Cabinet's theme, as you may have gathered from the labels, is Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother to Dragons from Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire. I'm even more behind on GOT than I am on the blog, so no spoilers please!! #foreverbehind

About the subscription:
The Vanishing Cabinet is a monthly subscription service from US based indie brand Notoriously Morbid. The amount of products included seems to vary, but there's typically three to four products in each and occasionally six in special VCs. It's $13.25USD within the US and $20USD for international (including shipping), so a very reasonable monthly treat! You can sign up for the wait list here or purchase a one month trial (while available) here. Overstock is occasionally posted here.

All swatches are applied to bare skin (on the left) and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (on the right) using a patting motion and photographed under daylight bulbs.

Stoic is a bright, grassy green with red and gold shimmer. The red shimmer absolutely glows once you get it over a sticky base, it's just gorgeous! It was fairly pigmented on its own, too, and blended out easily.

For this look, I've used Stoic on the inner half of the lid and lower lashline,Welcome to Vinnland on the outer half of the lid and lower lashline, Pay What Is Owed dabbed over the inner third of the lid, Osteomancy highlighter on the inner corner, WWBD for the transition, Mayor Monster on the crease and It's the White Hats for the browbone. The lashes are from Ebay in the style A15.

Protective Aggressor is a rich burgundy with red sheen and gold sparkles. It performed similarly to Stoic, faring best over a sticky base but still perfectly workable alone, too. The red shimmer ties it together well.

I used Visions on the inner third of the lid here with Power of Orange Knickers on the centre of the lid and lower lashline, Protective Aggressor on the outer third of the lid, Baroness on the outer V, 5 by 5 on the crease, He's Going Through Changes as a transition and Harlequin highlighter on the inner corner. The lashes are Ardell Demi Wispies.

Pretentious Namesake is a pale gold with red shimmer and golden sparkles which seem to shift to green at certain angles. It's tied with Stoic for my favourite of this VC as it's so blingy yet versatile!

For this look I used Top That on the lid, Boca Del Infierno and 314 on the crease and lower lashline, Logic Boy for the transition and Pretentious Namesake on the inner corner. The lashes are these Red Cherry 217 dupes from Ebay.

Stormborn is a midtone mauve with fine red, silver and green shimmers, with the silver and red being the most visible to my eye (though still subtle). It's slightly sheer to allow the sparkle to show through but builds up smoothly and lasts well - about six hours on me. No feathering or sparkle migration either; no wonder it was such a hit when it was released!

I really liked this VC, even though it took me a shamefully long time to get round to trying Stoic, as you may have gathered from the pictures! Which was your favourite item?
