MAC MONDAY | Posh Paradise - Naked Bliss, Deliciously Forbidden and Rare Exotic Mattenes Swatches & Review

I'll forever be pouty that MAC's Mattene lipsticks aren't permanent, I just love them so much! The three I have to show you today come from 2011's Posh Paradise collection, making these the same age as my oldest child, a sobering thought. I realise most of my MAC Monday posts come with a side of drivel about how I can't believe where time has gone but honestly, I now understand what my parents meant when they said 'it seems like only yesterday we were bringing you home from the hospital' all the time. IT'S SO TRUE. What happened to my baby? Why is he so tall now? Is there enough mince in New Zealand to sustain his appetite for it? Only time and the NZ beef industry will tell.

Wow, that was a major sidetrack. Let's look at some lipstick now. Mattenes! So, they're midway between MAC's matte and satin finishes, with a bit more slip than either of them. Instead of the traditional MAC bullet, they come in a slim rubberized tube which looks RAD but is a nuisance to keep clean. Also, some of the rubberized coating is peeling on my older tubes, which you can see in the product photo for Deliciously Forbidden. It looks like peeling sunburn and is just as grossly satisfying to pick off (don't lie, you've done it too).
There were ten Mattenes in this collection. I actually have four but the fourth, Potent Fig, is absolute rubbish and I'm still mad about it, plus I photographed the arm swatch separately and didn't feel like redoing it, so it's not included today. It might get a feature some day, maybe in a list of dream-dashing purple lipsticks if I'm having a particularly bad day. For now, you can find swatches of it in my MAC lipstick masterpost. Take that, Potent Fig.

Naked Bliss is described as 'neutral light pink'. It's a light pinky-beige nude with very fine silver shimmer and is mostly opaque with some light streaking. Naked Bliss indeed, it's very much my kind of nude, one I'll happily pair with anything. It lasted three hours on me and was minimally drying.

Deliciously Forbidden is described as a 'mid-tone berry'. It's a very warm take on berry, more of a muted plum, really. It's surprisingly unique in my collection and when I reswatched it recently, I found myself enjoying the colour more than ever. It lasted five hours on me and wasn't drying.

Rare Exotic is described as a 'bright mid-tone blue pink'. If memory serves, it was one of the most popular colours in the collection (although it is quite dupable). It performs pretty well, gliding on with rich, velvety colour payoff and it lasts five hours on me before fading to an even stain. I found it slightly clingy, which coupled with the average wear-time left Rare Exotic shy of a home run for me.

What I liked:
  • Strong colour payoff
  • Smooth application
  • Lasted three to five hours
What I didn't like:
  • Rare Exotic and Naked Bliss are slightly drying/clingy
  • Naked Bliss had a small amount of streaking
