I'm super excited for today's MAC Monday post because it features some of the lipsticks from one of the coolest MAC collections ever - Fafi! Fafi launched in early 2008 and it was a HUGE collection, with everything from Iridescent Pressed Powders to eyeshadow quads to makeup bags and even little Fafinette dolls. Everything was adorned in Fafi girls, the voluptuous, bold and colourful creations of French artist Fafi. I've picked up a few bits and bobs over the years but today I want to show you the four lipsticks I have from the range.
There were six lipsticks in the Fafi collection and all were sheer and sparkly Glazes and Lustres. The two I'm missing are Fun ‘n’ Sexy (blue pink with blue pearl in a Glaze finish) and Not So Innocent (sheer tan with pink and peach pearl in a Glaze finish).
Lustres are a finish people tend to either love or hate. They can be drying and short-lived on the lips although I seem to have had pretty good luck with them and don't find many of them noticeably drying. Glazes are very similar but typically have a higher sparkle content, occasionally in the form of fine glitter, which can feel a bit gritty on the lips. MAC lipsticks have a vanilla scent.
Utterly Frivolous is described as a 'rosy coral with pink pearl' with a Lustre finish. It applies mostly evenly but there's a slight milkiness to the base colour that can contribute to it looking uneven if your lips are dry or flaky. It's a very fresh and pretty shade though, particularly with the addition of the pink pearl, and I do like it overall. It wore for four hours.
Strawbaby is described as a 'coral rose with rainbow pearl' and has a Lustre finish. The sheer Lustre base combines somewhat awkwardly with large shimmer particles in Strawbaby to make it look uneven, especially up close. I'm on the fence with this one; I want to love it because the contrasting sparkle is really cool and the base colour is flattering but it just doesn't mesh together well. Can't win 'em all, I suppose! Strawbaby wore for four hours on me, was hydrating and left some sparkle behind when the colour was gone.
Flash N Dash
Flash N Dash is described as an 'intense tangerine red with pink pearl' and has a Glaze finish. It's a vibrant coral with mostly even colour payoff. I love, love, LOVE the colour and the shimmer but it does feel noticeably gritty on the lips, enough to be annoying, though not uncomfortable. It wore for four hours on me, with some sparkle left over after the colour had faded away.
High Top is described as a 'grey purple with blue pearl' in a Glaze finish. This was an impulse buy in a blog sale and I never expected it to be my favourite of the collection - it's just SO freaking cool! The purple base is sheer but even and the blue shimmer is just incredible. The shimmer is also finer than that used in Flash N Dash and isn't gritty at all. High Top lasted for four hours on me and like several of the others, left sparkle behind when the colour had disappeared.
What I liked:
- High Top had sheer, even colour payoff
- None of them feathered
- All of them wore for four hours
- Strawbaby was hydrating
- Strawbaby applies unevenly
- Flash N Dash feels gritty
