Darling Girl Fairy Tale Romance Collection Swatches & Review

Today I have another mini Once Upon A Time themed collection from Darling Girl Cosmetics to show you! Fairy Tale Romance is inspired by Emma's love interests on the show and includes three eyeshadows and a Balm Gloss (which is still on my wishlist!). Are you a fan of Once Upon A Time? It's such a guilty pleasure of mine!

Darling Girl's eyeshadows come in a few different sizing options: full sizes are packaged in 5g jars with approximately 3/4 tsp of product ($7USD). Petits are packaged in 3g jars with approximately 1/4 tsp of product ($3.25USD). You can also try a sample set, which includes 4 shades of your choosing in baggies, each containing 1/8th tsp for $5USD. I've gone down that route many times as you can get samples of any eyeshadows, Diamond Dusts, Spectral Shifts or loose blushes, excellent if you want a great cross section of colours and formulas to try!

Formula overview:
Darling Girl's eyeshadow formula is incredibly consistent. I've never come across a dud in the range; they are, on the whole, very pigmented and easy to work with. Some shades, especially the more glittery ones perform best over a sticky base but can certainly be used on their own.

Swatch notes:
All eyeshadow swatches in this post are done two ways: applied on bare skin on the left hand side and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, a sticky eyeshadow base which maximises colour intensity and sparkle, on the right. This is so you can see how they perform both ways. I take all of my photos with daylight bulbs for colour accuracy.

Hot As Baelfire

Hot As Baelfire is described as a 'mid tone matte plummy brown'. It's the perfect transition shade to compliment purpley looks and the formula is just of this world. Super smooth application, a breeze to sheer out and great colour payoff. I can't say enough good things about Hot As Baelfire! I do wish Baelfire would make a permanent return to the show, though. I like the Emma/Hook ship but I think I prefer SwanFire just a little more.

For this look I've used Precious Fairy Vagina on the inner half of the lid, Fort Delaware on the outer half of the lid & lower lashline, Hot As Baelfire for the transition and Tempting Tryst on the crease. The lashes are Ardell 110s.

Darling Girl If I Only Had A Heart Eyeshadow Swatches & Review

If I Only Had A Heart is described as 'palest cream with gold sheen and gold iridescence'. Over Pixie Epoxy, the gold sheen becomes dominant, giving the base colour a dirty ivory look. I use this alone more often than not, it makes a gorgeous inner corner highlight and would be beautiful as a face highlighter too. Wonderful application with and without a base.
I think If I Only Had A Heart is inspired by Graham the huntsman in the first season of OUAT but my memory of their relationship is pretty rusty. I do remember enjoying Jamie Dornan with a beard, though 😀

I used Provoke all over the lid here with If I Only Had A Heart on the inner corner and #breaktheinternet and Kilt-y Pleasures for blending and the crease. I used London Baby! over smudged black liner on the lower lashline and foiled Smelly Cat with Superstar Serum for the liner. The lashes are these ones from Born Pretty Store.

Let's Hook Up is described as a 'blackened green base with holographic gold sparkle and green and orange sparkle'. It's as debonair as its inspiration, Hook, who is definitely one of my favourite characters of the show. The colour payoff is great; it truly shines over a sticky base, but I used it without a sticky base in the look below and was impressed at how well the glitter still adhered. I don't think I did this shade justice in this look, though, I want to try it foiled as a liner next!

Here I've used The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up on the outer half of the lid, Shattered on the inner half of the lid and on the inner corner, #breaktheinternet for the transition and Kilt-y Pleasures on the crease. I also used Let's Hook Up over smoked out liner on the lower lashline. The lashes are, once again, Ardell Demi Wispies. The lip combo I'm wearing is a combination of Ambrosia Salad and Dodgy Pucker Paints (both sadly discontinued) with Mellow Peaches Spectral Shift patted over the centre.
