ColourPop Love A Flare Set Swatches & Review10:00

Here's another gem that's currently on ColourPop's chopping block, the Love A Flare set! All six eyeshadows in this collection are still available separately for $5USD each but if you love them all, the discounted set of 6 for $20USD is too good a deal to pass up.
This set is presented in a beautiful and sturdy box with magnetic closure and a mirror inside. The shadows fit snugly into a foam insert that is glued in place, so it's a fairly good option for travelling - they don't have much room to move around and break.
ColourPop's Super Shock Shadows have a malleable consistency like wet clay - should you press a finger into the eyeshadow you'll leave a hollow, it doesn't spring back or cling like a mousse, nor does it resist like a cream or powder. And of course, it's endlessly amusing to prod at! Because of the wetness of the formula, it is important to keep the lid tightly shut to prevent the product drying out. Even so, they have a fairly short official shelf life, with ColourPop advising that their eyeshadows will last three years unopened and a year after being opened. I've now had these for over a year and there appears to be no difference in quality than when I first got them, so it seems ColourPop are being pretty conservative.
There are eight different finishes in the SuperShock range: Ultra-Glitter, Glitter Sheer, Satin, Matte, Metallic, Ultra-Metallic, Pearlized and Pressed Pigments; I have a mixture of Pearlized and Matte shades to show you today. The Pearlized shades have varying degrees of shimmer and it's finer than in the Metallics or Ultra-Metallics. The Mattes are my new love; they blend incredibly well and true to the Super Shock formula, they last forever on me. I've found the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush to be excellent for working with these, it blends them out seamlessly. Oddly, I didn't like ColourPop's own blending brush so much for the task!
I Spy is described as a 'dusty peach' in a Matte finish. This makes an excellent transition shade on my skintone (NC15 in MAC, for reference) and I can't fault the application or colour payoff. I've been reaching for this often.
Melrose is described as 'true rust' and has a Matte finish. It's the perfect shade for a 90s inspired grungey eye and again, the formula is superb.
Moonwalk is described as a 'rusty orange with a yellow-green duo chrome flip' and has a Pearlized finish. If you love duochromes, you absolutely must grab Moonwalk, the green-gold shift is gorgeous! It's very similar to MAC Old Gold pigment, but ColourPop's Super Shock Shadow formula performs much better for me. One of my favourites in this set.
By My Side
By My Side is described as a 'yellow peach with a pink duo chrome flip' and has a Pearlized finish. Two duochromes in one set? Be still, my beating heart! By My Side has a much more subtle colour shift than Moonwalk but it's no less pretty for it. I really like using it for an inner corner highlight or an all over lid wash. Impeccable formula.
I've used Just For Fun on the inner half of the lid here, with By My Side on the outer half and inner corner, Boyband on the outer V and lower lashline, Seeker on the crease and I Spy for the transition. The lashes are these ones from Ebay in style 523. I'm also wearing Dopey Ultra Satin Lip in the pic below.
Head Rush is described as a 'khaki olive' and has a Matte finish.
I used Donna on the outer third of the lid for this look, with Partridge in the centre of the lid and along the lower lashline, Sleigh on the inner third of the lid and Valley Girl on the inner corner. I also used Head Rush on the crease and Cornelious for the transition. The false eyelashes are from Born Pretty Store.
What I liked:
- Excellent colour payoff
- They last all day on me, without creasing or fading
- Smooth, easy application, no fallout
Have you bought this set, or any of the shades from it? Which is your favourite?
