ColourPop Super Shock Shadow - I Heart This, On the Rocks, Mooning and Cricket Swatches & Review

I'm slowly catching up on reviewing my ColourPop Super Shock Shadows - just as I've bought some more, of course! The four I have to show you today are the first ones I bought new from their website (I reviewed some I bought in a local sales group last month) a bit over a year ago - whoops!! So there are lots of extra packaging shots to show you what to expect.

ColourPop's eyeshadows come boxed, although I confess to being a little annoyed that they don't have the name printed on them. I am a hoarder of packaging and have taken to storing some items in their boxes but because I can't readily identify the shade from the Super Shock Shadow's outerpackaging it's a waste of time in this case.
My moaning aside, the eyeshadows are housed in a glossy white screwtop pot with a holographic logo. ColourPop advise that the jars need to be kept tightly shut to prevent the eyeshadow from drying out.

Formula overview:
ColourPop's Super Shock Shadows have a malleable consistency like wet clay - should you press a finger into the eyeshadow you'll leave a hollow, it doesn't spring back or cling like a mousse, nor does it resist like a cream or powder. And of course, it's endlessly amusing to prod at! Because of the wetness of the formula it is important to keep the lid tightly shut to prevent the product drying out. Even so, they have a fairly short official shelf life, with ColourPop advising that their eyeshadows will last three years unopened and a year after being opened. I've now had these a little over a year and there appears to be no difference in quality than when I first got them, so it seems ColourPop are being pretty conservative.

There are seven different finishes in the SuperShock range: Glitter Sheer, Satin, Matte, Metallic, Ultra-Metallic, Pearlized and Pressed Pigments; I have a mixture of Metallic and Pearlized shades to show you today. Many of the Pearlized and Metallic shades contain glitter which is prone to fall out so applying these shades with a finger or a flat shader brush works best to minimise this and press the glitter into place. The Mattes can be applied with any brushes and are easy to blend out seamlessly. Across the board, everything I have tried from ColourPop has had excellent colour pay off, but what really impresses me is how budge-proof they are. They take a few seconds to set and then remain crease proof for the duration of wear - long time readers will know I have ridiculously oily eyelids that laugh in the face of most primers and eyeshadows, so the lasting power on these blew me away. I even put Sequin (reviewed here) on the back of my hand and rubbed at it with my finger once it was set, using increasingly hard pressure, and it didn't smear or fade at all. Pretty much the only transfer was a small amount of glitter on my finger.

I Heart This

I Heart This is a 'cool-toned silvery taupe with multi-coloured glitter' with a Metallic finish. It wound up being one of my favourite colours from this order and I've reached for it often since, sometimes as a lid colour like I've shown below and other times as a blingy inner corner highlight or patted down the centre of the lid. I Heart This is incredibly versatile and I highly recommend it!

For this look I applied I Heart This all over the lid and used the LORAC Pro palette to add some very light definition to the crease and to highlight. I also used Tosowoong Bronze Spectrum Waterproof Gel Pencil Liner in Gold Glow on the lower lashline, Moon Princess false eyelashes from Born Pretty Store and NV Colour Felt Tip eyeliner in Blue Velvet.

On the Rocks

On The Rocks is a 'vibrant true bronze with gold and violet glitter' in a Metallic finish. It's a colour I was immediately drawn to because I'm predictable and thrash bronze like no tomorrow (and if there is no tomorrow, you may as well go out wearing a colour you love!). On The Rocks doesn't disappoint, it's sparkly as hell and the colour is gorgeous.

Mooning is a 'rich blackened bronze highlighted with warm hints of pearlized glitter' and a Pearlized finish. Although the Pearlized finish is just as packed with glitter as the Metallics, they have less sparkle in the base colour and with Mooning, I found it harder to keep both the glitter visible and the edges blended. The lack of sparkle in the base colour made it a bit less forgiving in this respect. I'll probably wear it as a lid colour next time for this reason and rely on a matte shade to blend the edges so the sparkle isn't constantly being dusted away. I had much greater success using it on the lower lashline below as I could really press the colour into place.

Here I used On the Rocks all over the lid/inner half of lower lashline, Mooning on the outer half of the lid and lower lashline and I Heart This on the inner corner. I also used the LORAC Pro palette to blend out (admittedly, not my best effort) and some Mon Secret lashes from Japan City.

Cricket

Cricket is a 'smoky mid-tone plum with warm and cool highlights of soft glitter' and a Metallic finish. It was a bit of a wild card purchase, because I don't wear a lot of purple, but I'm really glad I took the plunge; the mix of smokiness with the plum is beautiful.

I used Cricket on the lid and lower lashline with the LORAC Pro palette for crease, transition and blending. The highlight is Clarins Lovely Rose eyeshadow (discontinued) and the lashes are Ardell Demi Wispies.

What I liked:
  • Excellent colour pay off
  • Low price
  • Easy to blend
  • Budge proof once set!
What I didn't like:
  • I experience a lot of fall out with some of the glittery shades.
