ColourPop Kiss & Tell Ultra Glossy Lip Kit Swatches & Review

Despite not being a huge lipgloss wearer, a mixture of curiosity and collector compulsions led me to buy the Kiss & Tell Ultra Glossy Lip Kit ($24USD), one of the three record kits in ColourPop's Now Playing Holiday 2016 collection. I'd never tried their gloss formula and when all of their liquid lips were 20% off for Black Friday, it seemed like just the right excuse to take them for a whirl! A tenuous excuse, maybe, but an excuse nonetheless 😃

There are five glosses in this set, which come beautifully packaged in a large, sturdy cardboard record shaped box. The lipgloss packaging itself differs from ColourPop's usual silver caps and clear tubes, instead, the caps are black and the tubes are frosted, which looks very sleek. The applicator is a slim, angled doefoot.

Formula Overview:
The texture of these is very cushiony and smooth, it glides on the lips easily and doesn't feel sticky or tacky. You can feel the glitter in some of the metallic shades but it doesn't feel too gritty or uncomfortable. I found them to be hydrating and quite long wearing for lipgloss at four to five hours. Although these particular shades are all very glittery, it didn't migrate all over the place while I wore them, which I was pleased with - stray glitter is never ideal! They had no discernable scent.

Tight Fit

ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip - Tight Fit Swatches & Review

Tight Fit is described as a 'light peachy pink in a metallic finish'. It's the only shade not exclusive to this kit and can be purchased as part of the permanent range anytime. To be honest, as soon as I swiped this on, I was kicking myself for not having tried any of the Ultra Glossy Lips sooner - it's just gorgeous! The pink shimmer in the peachy base gives an almost duochrome appearance as the shimmer catches the light. There's some settling into lip lines as you can see in the swatch above, but it's not visible from a normal viewing distance. Tight Fit lasted for three and a half hours on me, with plenty of sparkle remaining after the gloss had disappeared.

Playback

Playback is described as a 'light gold topped with silver glitter in a metallic finish'. It's a light peach with fine pearly silver shimmer and slightly larger golden sparks. I experienced less pulling into lip lines than with Tight Fit and it doesn't have that duochrome vibe, but overall I did feel that they were pretty close to each other and perhaps not necessary to include in the same kit. Not that I didn't like Playback - it's a beautiful shade! It wore for four hours on me, was very hydrating and again, left behind a lot of sparkle.

Furry

ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip - Furry Swatches & Review

Furry is described as a 'rich burgundy in a metallic finish'. It has rich colour payoff and lots of fine sparkle that makes it totally mesmerising on the lips. The downside to the opaque, glossy colour, for me, is that it causes Furry to feather and as it's also a stainer, I had faint pink staining around my lip line after a few hours wear where it had bled. It's worth noting that I am quite prone to feathering so if you don't typically experience it you may not have any trouble with Furry. The colour is spectacular enough for me to try it with a lip liner, so I'll have to chuck one in with my next order. I think LBB looks like a good potential match! Feathering and all, Furry wore for five hours on me, after which it was mostly a glittery stain.
This shade is also available individually, although the website currently notes that there is low inventory.

Flatline

ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip - Flatline Swatches & Review

Flatline is described as a 'mid tone gold with multi dimensional glitter in a metallic finish'. It's a sheer gold glitter which appears quite gritty on the lips due to the larger glitter particle size and sheer base colour. As you may be able to tell, I'm not thrilled with it on its own! Used as a layering gloss though, it's stunning - I've put it over Trust Me Lippie Stix (reviewed here) a little further down. Flatline wore for five hours on me, was hydrating during that time and left behind a lot of sparkle.

Swinger

ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip - Swinger Swatches & Review

Swinger is described as a 'cool-toned silver taupe in a metallic finish'. When I first pulled this out of the box, I was thinking 'eeep, what have I done?!' - it was much greyer than I'd expected! But on the lips, Swinger isn't nearly as intimidating. The silver-taupe base mutes my natural lip colour somewhat and the pearl and gold shimmer is very pretty. I'll probably use this primarily for layering! Swinger lasts five hours on me and is hydrating like the rest of the shades.

ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip - Swinger Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Great colour payoff
  • Wear time was between four and five hours
  • Smooth, easy application
  • Hydrating
  • Glitter doesn't feel gritty on the lips or migrate outside lip line
What I didn't like:
  • Furry feathers on me
  • Flatline looks gritty on the lips due to the larger particle size
Where to buy:
Have you tried ColourPop's Ultra Glossy Lips before? Are you much of a lipgloss person?

Pretty Serious Ghosts of Christmas Past Nail Polish Collection Swatches & Review

Pretty Serious' holiday collections are always pretty darn rocking so I was incredibly thrilled and flattered to be asked to swatch the Ghosts of Christmas Past collection this year! The lineup features two Cocktail Crush topcoats and six nail polishes in a mixture of classic and vintage inspired shades. I think you're going to love it as much as I do, so let's dive in!

Swatch notes:
Swatches are done without base coat or top coat unless otherwise noted and photographed under daylight bulbs.

Tarnished Tinsel

Pretty Serious - Tarnished Tinsel, 3 coats + top coat

Tarnished Tinsel is a rich yellow-gold glitter with sparse red glitters added in. The base seems a little thicker on this one to suspend the glitter but it was still very easy to work with and built to opacity in three coats. I love how blingy it is! Tarnished Tinsel does dry a little dull and textured on its own so I applied top coat for this swatch.

Velvet Bow

Pretty Serious - Velvet Bow, 2 coats

Velvet Bow is a metallic, glowy red. Like many of Pretty Serious' nail polishes, Velvet Bow is very opaque and smooth, covering in two coats. Love a classic like this!

Jack Frost

Pretty Serious - Jack Frost, 1 coat over Velvet Bow

Jack Frost is an iridescent topper with a mixture of blue to green shifting glitters and finer silvery sparkle. The combination lives up to its name perfectly, creating a beautiful icy effect on whatever you layer it over. I was tempted to go with black or dark green for a base but decided instead to try it over the less obvious choice of Velvet Bow and really enjoyed the contrast.

Very Merry Berry

Pretty Serious Very Merry Berry nail polish swatches & review

Pretty Serious - Very Merry Berry, 3 coats

Very Merry Berry is a darkened berry red creme. It applied easily and appeared to be opaque in two coats in person but under my photography lights looked like it needed a third, so your mileage may vary!

Mojito

Pretty Serious - Mojito, 1 coat over Very Merry Berry

Mojito is a sheer green glassfleck Cocktail Crush top coat. It's absolutely loaded with shimmer so can show a little milky over the base colour if you're not careful to keep an even hand during application - you can see a bit of patchiness towards the base of my middle and ring fingernails where I flubbed a little.

Peace On Earth

Pretty Serious Peace On Earth nail polish swatches & review

Pretty Serious Peace On Earth nail polish swatches & review

Pretty Serious - Peace On Earth, 3 coats

Peace On Earth is a pale mint green with strong pink shimmer. It's definitely a 'drop everything and grab it' shade and evidently, a lot of people did as it sold out super fast during the launch of this collection! Don't worry, though, it'll be returning in January and Pretty Serious are even offering their introductory discount on it for those who missed out.

Enchanting Evergreen

Pretty Serious Enchanting Evergreen nail polish swatches & review

Pretty Serious Enchanting Evergreen nail polish swatches & review

Pretty Serious - Enchanting Evergreen, 2 coats

Enchanting Evergreen is a blackened forest green with green and blue shimmer - absolutely divine! The shimmer is strong enough that it doesn't just look black on your nails from a distance and the formula flowed on smoothly, covering in just two coats.

Fairy Lights

Pretty Serious Fairy Lights nail polish swatches & review

Pretty Serious Fairy Lights nail polish swatches & review

Pretty Serious - Fairy Lights, 3 coats

Fairy Lights is a pale grey with pink glassfleck shimmer. It builds up nicely in three coats for a sheer, even and decidedly delicate manicure. Perfect if you prefer wearing softer shades on your nails, I know this is a look that has definitely grown on me in a big way in recent years.

Pretty Serious polishes are $9.95AUD a piece. PS are cruelty-free & vegan, they're based in Australia and are available on their website with international flat rate shipping (hell yeah!). PLUS they have a US warehouse for US & Canadian customers so they can get their polish quickly! For a full list of international stockists, check out their list here.

What are your favourites from this collection? I love them all but I think Peace On Earth and Enchanting Evergreen are the standouts for me, as a green nail polish addict!

Clarins Intense Eye Collection Review

Clarins Intense Eye Collection Review

I talked briefly about the Clarins Intense Eye Collection in one of my gift guides earlier this month and as I've now had a chance to trial things over a few weeks, I'm ready to share my thoughts! This kit has a total value of $83 but has been available for $50NZD over the holidays. You may be able to score it on sale now that Christmas has passed - Farmers currently has 10% off beauty so it's worth checking there if you've had your eye on it. All of the products included are available year round if you like the look of them, though.

Clarins Intense Eye Collection Review

In this gift set, you'll find a full-size Supra Volume mascara and minis of the Instant Eye Make Up Remover and Crayon Kohl in Carbon Black. The whole kit and caboodle is presented in a super soft white quilted makeup bag - I'm a little concerned about how grubby it will get, but it feels very luxurious for now.

Clarins Crayon Kohl - Carbon Black Swatches & Review

The Crayon Eye Kohl is creamy and smooth in texture with excellent colour payoff. I found it really easy to use on both my upper and lower lashlines and on my waterline, with no tugging or skipping whatsoever. It's smudgeable enough that it can be easily manipulated for a short time after application but sets and lasts very well. Carbon Black is a pigmented, inky black and is one of eight shades in the full range of Eye Kohls.

Clarins Supra Volume Mascara review

The Supra Volume Mascara is a relatively new addition to Clarins' range and is presently only available in one shade, Carbon Black. It has a traditional bristle brush which is slim and medium in size - I love that it's not huge and unwieldy as mascara wands tend to be trending towards these days! This wand does a great job of grabbing and lifting up my stubborn, straight lashes without clumping and I'm especially enjoying it for my lower lashes, which can be difficult to get at on the outer third. The formula delivers feathery volume and defines my lashes well.
As far as wear goes, I'm pretty pleased! I experience no running or smudging during wear and have only noticed the tiniest amount of flaking at the end of the day. These are minuscule flakes I'm talking about, too - I don't think anyone but the wearer would notice them. Overall, a great mascara that I'd happily repurchase.

Clarins Supra Volume Mascara review
Before & after Supra Volume Mascara

The Instant Eye Makeup Remover, I'll admit I haven't tested extensively yet but so far I'm enjoying it. It removes eye makeup, including waterproof formulas with ease and is very gentle on the eyes. It is the kind of remover that leaves some residue behind which may or may not bother you but it does come away easily during the rest of my cleansing routine.

Clarins products are available at Farmers and selected department stores and pharmacies.

Have you tried any of these products?

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips - Echo Park & Frick N Frack Swatches & Review

Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lips - Echo Park & Frick N Frack Swatches & Review

Yesterday I shared a bunch of ColourPop Lippie Stix for you to check out before the international shipping promo ends and today I have a couple of their Ultra Satin Lips to show you! I've flip-flopped on the Ultra Matte formula a bit but the Ultra Satin formula has been total love for me from the get-go. They wear for ages, they're super pigmented and I haven't yet had any issues with feathering, which is always a big win when it comes to liquid lipsticks!

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip - Echo Park Swatches & Review

Ultra Satins are packaged identically to the Ultra Mattes except for the differing text on the side of the tube. The tube is long and slim with a small doefoot applicator that I find really easy to control. Formula-wise, these are thicker than the Ultra Mattes, they spread across the lips easily and have a light, chemical-y scent.

Echo Park

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip - Echo Park Swatches & Review

Echo Park is described as a 'warm peachy nude', which sums it up perfectly in my opinion. I really love this shade, it's more opaque than some of my go-to nudes, such as MAC Patisserie, but peachier than the other ColourPop nudes I tend to favour (shades like Cookie, Pinch and Parker). I'm really glad I picked it up! It lasted a bit under six hours on me and wasn't drying.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip - Frick N Frack Swatches & Review

Frick N Frack is described as a 'rosy terracotta'. I'm still on the fence about whether I like Frick N Frack on me, sometimes I love it and other times it feels very ageing and unflattering - obviously, that's personal taste, not a critique on the lipstick itself! The application and colour payoff are both great but one thing I dislike is that it stains lightly and the redness of the stain shows through around the centre of my mouth very quickly - even in a freshly applied swatch like these pictures. It wears well though, lasting five hours on me and becoming more matte over time. It's not drying but it is a bit clingy.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip - Frick N Frack Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Great colour payoff
  • Wear time was between five and six hours
  • Non-drying
  • Non-feathering
  • Smooth, easy application
What I didn't like:
  • Frick N Frack stains quickly and the stain disrupts the evenness of the colour
  • Frick N Frack is a bit clingy
Where to buy:
Have you tried ColourPop's Ultra Satin Lips? Do you have a favourite shade?
