Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks - Doll Parts and Hoe Hoe Hoe Swatches & Review

I was a bit slow off the mark when Jeffree Star launched his five piece holiday lipstick collection this year and like everyone else who missed out on the sell out shade Androgyny, I'm now kicking myself for it! I'm so glad that the brand really listened to their customers and very quickly made the decision to bring back the shade and make it permanent in February.

My husband bought me two of the other four shades in the collection for Christmas and I am completely in love with them.

Formula overview:
These have a stellar formula! They're incredibly opaque, the consistency is neither too thick nor too thin, they're easy to control, non-tacky and have a quick dry down time. Once applied, they don't feather or smudge and wear for ages - everything I've wear tested from the brand so far has lasted at least five hours and some have even gone up to nine. Most shades aren't drying and I cannot detect any scent or taste to them.

The packaging for the holiday collection is slightly different to the permanent line up, capped with glossy white instead of the usual Barbie pink. I really like the clear wand stem, I don't know why that really appeals to me in the grand scheme of things but there it is :D The doefoot applicator is slightly concave to hug the lips and evenly spread the lipstick and it's quite pointed, which makes it easy to be precise. You get a decent amount of product in here too, 5.6ml for $18USD - comparatively, a Lime Crime Velvetine is 2.6ml for $20USD.

Doll Parts

Doll Parts is described as a 'cool pink'. It's a medium mauvey pink which applies flawlessly. I wasn't a hundred percent sure I'd like this colour on me initially but as soon as I tried it on I was so glad that I took the gamble (hubby is a guided shopper). Doll Parts has outstanding wear time, lasting for eight hours without touch ups, and was not drying.

Hoe Hoe Hoe

Hoe Hoe Hoe is a deep red with purple and red sparkle. The glitter is visible when applied normally, but becomes more visible if you rub a finger or Q-tip gently across it. Similarly, as the lipstick slowly wears away over time the glitter comes through more strongly, which is in an effect I really like - a lipstick that looks even better over time?! Hell yes!
I wore Hoe Hoe Hoe on Christmas Day and it hung on through copious amounts of food with minimal touch ups. Without touch ups, it wears for five hours on me and is not drying.

Collection Lasting Colour Lipstick - Sweet Tart, Bubblegum and Vintage Rose Swatches & Review

Collection Lasting Colour Lipstick - Sweet Tart, Bubblegum and Vintage Rose Swatches & Review

Collection Cosmetics decision to be stocked at Countdown supermarkets is part genius and part evil, since the brand relaunched on kiwi shores in 2014 I always find myself taking a peek at the stand for a little treat to throw in with the groceries! I have three of their Lasting Colour lipsticks to show you today, which is an affordable range of pigmented and on trend shades.

Collection Lasting Colour Lipstick - Sweet Tart, Bubblegum and Vintage Rose Swatches & Review

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs

Formula overview:
The Collection Lasting Colour range is supposed to be a 'long lasting lipstick that locks colour to lips all day' and have a 'soft, smooth formula'. They're lightly creamy with a medium amount of slip, smooth application and mostly opaque to full coverage colour. I've now tried all but two of the eleven shades in the range and the wear time is generally very good but they don't truly offer all day wear. I believe six or seven hours is the maximum I've had with some of the darker colours. The three reviewed today wore for three and a half to five and a half hours without being drying or feathering, though I did notice some settling into lip lines with two of them. These lipsticks have a sweet, plasticky scent.

The packaging is glossy black plastic with hot pink accents and a traditional teardrop shaped lipstick bullet. The name labels at the base of the tube are coloured to match each lipstick shade.

Sweet Tart is a medium coral pink. It has mostly opaque colour pay off and a semi glossy finish but settles into lip lines noticeably. It wears for three and a half hours without being drying and leaves behind a light tint when the colour has largely worn away.

Bubblegum is a light, cool toned pink with subtle shimmer. Like Sweet Tart, Bubblegum was prone to settling into lip lines although to a lesser degree. I really enjoyed wearing it though, it's super fun and very similar to Lime Crime Great Pink Planet and MAC Saint Germain. It wore for three and a half hours, didn't feather or dry out my lips.

Vintage Rose is a warm rosewood shade with fine silver shimmer. I really like this colour on me, it's super flattering and the colour pay off is fantastic. Vintage Rose wore for five and a half hours without being drying or migrating.

What I liked:
  • Vintage Rose has great colour pay off
  • Bubblegum and Sweet Tart have mostly opaque colour pay off
  • Wear time ranges between three and a half to five and a half hours

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick - Poppy Nude and Poppy Coral Swatches & Review

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick - Poppy Nude and Poppy Coral Swatches & Review

Recently I've been trying out The Body Shop's Lip & Cheek Velvet Sticks, which were added to their lineup early this year. These handy little sticks offer buildable colour pay off and a light, blendable texture in six shades (including a universal one that adjusts to the pH of your skin for your ideal colour). I love multi-tasking products like these on busy days so was eager to put them to the test!

The Lip & Cheek Velvet Sticks are retractable chubby sticks with a pointed tip. The winding mechanism works perfectly, you don't have to worry about them getting stuck or breaking off if you wind up too much. One thing that annoyed me ever so slightly is that the shade name is on a printed label on the shrink wrap these come in, so as soon as that's removed you're left with just the shade number printed on the bottom of the tube. Both the end-cap and the flower design are coloured to match each shade so it's still super easy to tell them apart, but if you're the kind of person who likes to be able to see the names easily you might get a bit annoyed too.

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick - Poppy Nude and Poppy Coral Swatches & Review

Formula overview:
The Body Shop promise that the Lip & Cheek Velvet Sticks will 'give your lips and cheeks a naturally flushed glow... Enjoy a colour sensation with an exquisite velvet matte finish'. They're imbued with silica, which gives them that smooth, velvety texture, and marula oil, the latest 'It' oil which is reportedly even more potent than other popular oils like argan and grapeseed.
These apply and blend out really easily with buildable colour pay off and they're especially nice on cheeks. On lips they can emphasise flaws a little, moreso with Poppy Nude as is often the case with shimmery products and they're semi-opaque with even coverage. They have a light rose and geranium scent.

Poppy Nude is a soft warm peachy brown with very fine, subtle shimmer. It grabbed at uneven texture and lip flakes more than Poppy Coral but this wasn't noticeable from a normal viewing distance. On my lips it wore for three and a half hours, settling into lip lines a bit over time and was slightly drying. On cheeks, it lasted for ten hours.

What I liked:
  • Apply and blend beautifully for a natural flush
  • They last for ten hours on cheeks, three to three and a half hours on lips
  • Easy to use, retractable packaging which doesn't cause the product to break or get stuck
What I didn't like:
  • Poppy Nude emphasises uneven texture and flakes on lips

MAC Monday: Hello Kitty - Tippy and Fun & Games Beauty Powder Blush Swatches & Review

It doesn't get much more adorable than MAC's Hello Kitty collection, which had MAC fans worldwide clamouring over it back in early 2009 and has remained one of the most coveted among collectors. I have a few bits and bobs from this collection to share, but today let's take a look at the Beauty Powder Blushes!

As far as I'm aware, Beauty Powder Blushes were a limited edition formulation that only appeared in a few collections before being buried in the MAC archives. They had a standalone collection in 2008, then popped up again in this collection and again in Style Warriors (2009). They're pigmented, like a blush, but have a softer, silkier texture, like some of the beauty powders. I wish MAC would bring them back !

The packaging for this collection is near saccharine in its cuteness, with pink glitter speckled throughout the glossy black compacts and a black, white, pink and grey Hello Kitty design emblazoned on it. The Beauty Powder Blushes have the same dimensions as a regular MAC blush.

Tippy

Tippy is described as a 'midtone blue pink'. It has incredible colour pay off and applies and blends beautifully, which is handy since it could otherwise be very easy to overdo! When I tested it for wear, Tippy wore for eleven hours.

Fun & Games is described as a 'soft orange peach' and has fine gold shimmer mixed in to give it a subtle and flattering luminosity. Like Tippy, it has lovely colour pay off and applies perfectly, buffing into the skin for a very natural flush. Fun & Games lasted nine hours on me.
