NV Colour Cheeky Stick - Chilli Chops Swatches & Review

Provided for review

Hey lovelies,

The second last to item I have to show you from the NV Colour preview is my favourite of them all, the Cheeky Stick in the shade 'Chilli Chops'!

NV Colour Cheeky Stick - Chilli Chops Swatches & Review

The cute and informative packaging theme continues with the box telling you all about the Cheeky Stick. It's a compact little thing, fitting easily in the palm of my hand and twists up smoothly. The cap clicks into place very securely, there's no danger that it'll come loose in a handbag or makeup bag.

Swatched heavily (left) and sheered out (right) on bare skin under daylight bulbs

Chilli Chops is a bright pink with a hint of coral. It has great colour pay off and the texture is soft, lightweight and ultra blendable with a luminous finish. I applied Chilli Chops straight from the tube and then used a stippling brush to blend it out but you can just as easily use your fingers; it responds well to blending either way. Wear time was a little shorter than I would have liked, lasting for six hours which is admittedly fairly average for me with a cream blush formula. Those with drier skin may find the lasting power to be better (I run normal to oily) and setting it with a translucent powder would also likely help. That being said, it is a handbag friendly size and is easy to touch up on the go without having to bring brushes out and about with you, so the wear time may not be a deal breaker for you.

Mother's Day 2015 Gift Guide

Purchased by me/Provided for review/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

Mother's Day is fast approaching and I wanted to share a few gift suggestions for those in need of some inspiration (*coughs* like my husband, heehee).

Mother's Day 2015 Gift Guide

1. Lancome Premier Collection, $101.00 at Fresh Fragrances & Cosmetics
Containing six mini perfumes from the many brands under Lancome's umbrella, I picked this because Cacharel Anais Anais is my mum's favourite fragrance. She's had a bottle in her bathroom cabinet for as long as I can remember and I recall rolling the bottle between my palms as a kid, studying the floral design. I'll always associate Anais Anais with her and I think this set would be a great way of gifting her an old favourite as well as a selection of new things to try. Does your mum have a favourite perfume?

2. Star Kin Cuti-Cuddles, $4.50 at Star Kin by Everysensory (but keep an eye out for new potential stockists!)
A great cuticle oil is a must for anyone who likes to keep their hands and nails in good condition and Star Kin Cuti-Cuddles is my favourite of all time. My favourite scents are Caramel Popcorn, Lemon Meringue and White Chocolate Macadamia - the last is unfortunately not currently listed but there are a heap more to choose from and you could potentially message Ami through Etsy or her Facebook page to ask about White Choc Macadamia.

3. Shea Classic Picks set, $69.00 at The Body Shop
I don't think many mums would say no to one of The Body Shop's classic body butters and I know my mother in law is certainly a fan. This gorgeous set contains a shower cream, mini body scrubs and body butters, a soap and a sponge. Dry skin won't know what hit it!

4. ZA Vibrant Moist Lipstick, $18.00 from ZA Cosmetics - list of stockists here
Whether your mum is a diehard bold lipstick lover (in which case, we should totally hang) or is wanting something that's easy to slick on and go, ZA's Vibrant Moist lipstick line has her covered. There are fifteen shades available in varying undertones to flatter a variety of skintones and the formula is smooth and lightly hydrating. My favourites are PK444, RD444, RS444 and PK212s. For swatches of the full lipstick range, click here!

5. Ecoya Mini Metro Gift Set, $37.70 at Recreate Yourself
Ecoya really know their stuff when it comes to candles and this mini set contains three of their most popular scents - French Pear, Sweet Pea & Jasmine and Lotus Flower. I'm rather partial to their Vanilla Bean candle myself but these have all smelled just as divine when I've sniffed them in store!

6. Mum Gift, $62.00 at LUSH NZ
This is a gift I know my mum and I would be fighting over! It contains Yummy Mummy Shower Gel and the matching Yummy Mummy Body Conditioner, both of which I reviewed in this LUSH Mother's Day preview post. Also hiding away in this value packed box are Honey I Washed The Kids Soap (my mum's favourite - she requests it every birthday, Mother's Day and Christmas!), The Comforter Bubble Bar, Blackberry Bath Bomb and Vanilla Delite Body Lotion. If you're shopping online, LUSH recommend that you place your order by the 3rd of May to ensure it reaches you in time.

7. Moisture Mist Mother's Day Set, $39.00 from Moisture Mist - list of stockists here
Moisture Mist's most popular foundation, Beauty Cake, is the star of this gift set! I know this is a go to foundation for many New Zealand women so if your mum is a fan she'll surely appreciate this. It's a great price too, as the Beauty Cake retails for $35.00 on its own and here it is paired with a blender sponge and two ZA skincare minis.

What are you getting your mum for Mother's Day? Have you made any special plans?

NARS Viva Las Vegas Lipstick Swatches & Review

Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

I have my first NARS lipstick to show you today! Viva Las Vegas was an impulse buy from a blog sale and I'm sort of up in the air about how I feel about it. I could see from online swatches that it was shimmery, but in person it's a straight up frost. Not eighties level of frost, but undeniably frosty all the same. And frosts and I are not traditionally pals.

NARS Viva Las Vegas Lipstick Swatches & Review

The regular line of NARS lipsticks comes in compact rubberized matte black packaging. It appears smaller than a MAC lipstick although it actually contains the same amount of product (3g). As you've probably read in every NARS review ever, the packaging does show marks rather remorselessly so neat freaks beware!

NARS Viva Las Vegas Lipstick Swatches & Review

Viva Las Vegas is a warm beige with golden shimmer, described by NARS as 'shimmering champagne'. It has mostly opaque colour coverage with the natural pink of my lips coming through a bit to alter the colour. Although it is frosty, it's not the kind of frost that grabs onto every flaw in your lips and magnifies them; it's actually a very forgiving formula. It applies smoothly and lasts for four hours on me, so not bad at all for a nude. I found it to be mildly drying towards the end of weartime.
I'm really no closer to deciding whether I like this or not! All in all it has a pretty good formula, but.... it's a frost. Hmm. Do you guys have a lipstick finish you struggle to get on board with?

NARS Viva Las Vegas Lipstick Swatches & Review

What I liked:
  • Wears for four hours
  • Applies smoothly without emphasising lip texture
What I didn't like:
  • Mildly drying towards end of weartime

What do you think of Viva Las Vegas? Have you tried any lipsticks from NARS before?

MAC Monday: MAC X Lorde - Pure Heroine Lipstick Swatches & Review

MAC
Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

Phew, MAC Monday fell off the bandwagon a bit this month, huh? Truth be told I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of products awaiting testing at the moment and being sick for a fortnight at the beginning of the month really didn't help matters. But I'm testing stuff and my lips are almost back up to swatching condition so hopefully, eventually, I'll catch up again.
Anyway, today I want to show you the lone lipstick that launched with last year's Lorde collection (try saying that five times fast!). The Lorde collection was pretty hyped, with promo images showing the singer wearing a vampy deep plummy purple, but when swatches started popping up it was a fair bit lighter and not terribly even in its colour pay off. I kept yo-yoing back and forth about getting it and in the end it was a total impulse buy.

MAC Monday: MAC X Lorde - Pure Heroine Lipstick Swatches & Review

Pure Heroine is a deep plummy purple with an amplified finish. It has mostly even colour pay off with some streaking and patchiness going on up close but it looks much more even from a distance. The condition of your lips is really going to affect how well this lipstick looks, it'll catch on any flakes and contribute to the patchiness. The swatch above was taken when my lips were in really good condition and you can see it's not perfect.
All of the above could easily lead you to believe I dislike Pure Heroine which is definitely not the case! The formula is not as great as I have come to expect from MAC, but I really like the colour. Wear time was good, it was a bit faded after three hours and lasted six hours in total without feathering or being drying. It left behind a strong pink stain.

What I liked:
  • Wears for six hours
  • Non drying
  • Doesn't feather
What I didn't like:
  • A bit patchy and streaky
  • Looked faded after three hours

ColourPop Lippie Stix - Button, Cake, Lumiere, Brills and Wifey Swatches & Review

Purchased by me

Hey lovelies,

I've been bitten by the ColourPop bug! After lusting after their stuff for far too long I finally couldn't hold back any longer and organised a group order with a few friends (making the international shipping costs a bit more palatable!).

ColourPop Lippie Stix - Button, Cake, Lumiere, Brills and Wifey Swatches & Review

...Of course, I still had to make the most of the share of shipping costs I paid :D
I wound up with nine, count 'em, NINE Lippie Stix (and you know I already want more, wanton lipstick fiend that I am) but to save your eyeballs from being completely overloaded I'll be showing you just five today.

ColourPop Lippie Stix - Button, Cake, Lumiere, Brills and Wifey Swatches & Review

If you haven't heard of Colourpop, they're a US based cruelty free company with fantastic quality products ranging between $5 and $8USD. ColourPop Lippie Stix retail for just $5, but you'd never know it to look at the packaging. Holographic lettering, contrasting turquoise on the inside of the boxes, what's not to love?

ColourPop Lippie Stix - Button, Cake, Lumiere, Brills and Wifey Swatches & Review

The packaging for the Lippie Stix is a glossy white twist up slim tube with a slanted lip bullet. I found myself really liking the smaller surface area of this lipstick style as it allowed me more precision. Each lipstick has a coloured end cap which matches the colour inside as well as a label with the name and finish (eg satin, matte, glossy).
The Lippie Stix have a gorgeous chocolate chip cookie scent - it smells just like the Rainbowlicious Chocolate Chip scrub to my nose, which means I'm basically in heaven every time I pop the cap off one of these. SO good.
I chose a mixture of mattes and satins for my first order and found the texture and application to be great with both formulas. All of them have a very subtle tackiness and a smooth, slightly creamy texture. The mattes seemed to be a little firmer on the lips, but they didn't drag or tug in any way, the satins had a bit more slip. They are all pretty forgiving of flaws, good news for those who struggle to keep pesky lip flakes away! (I'm dealing with some stubborn ones myself right now).

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs (Creature and Feminist will be reviewed on another occasion!)

Button is a medium peach with a matte finish. It definitely comes across as more of a true peach on me than the website swatches, which look distinctly pinker - not that I mind, I'm loving this colour! Button applies really smoothly and lasts four hours on me with just a little bit of dryness toward the end of wear.

I must confess that I bought Cake primarily because it is one of my sister Casey's nicknames! Fortunately this was one of the times where buying a product for the name did pay off, I love Cake! It's a bright peachy coral with a satin finish. Texture was again spot on and it lasted for four hours.

Lumière

Lumière was a bit of an impulse buy and a challenge shade for me - I'm infinitely more comfortable in bright reds and vampy purples, but I was drawn to Lumière all the same. It's a dusty mauve with a matte finish. Wear time was flipping phenomenal on this shade, with Lumière lasting a little over seven hours in all! It was super comfortable to wear and didn't feel drying in the least.

Brills is a shade I fell in love with after seeing Temptalia's swatches, it's a lavender with a satin finish. Such a cute colour, I want to wear it again soon with a warm bronze eye. It wore for four hours on me without being drying.

Again, I blatantly bought Wifey for the name, having recently married my love after eight years and two children together - here's to many more :D ('Of which?!' I can see my husband wringing his hands as I cackle and leave him to speculate). Impulsive buying habits and spouse torture methods aside, Wifey is an absolutely incredible colour and I'm so glad I picked it up. I really own nothing like it! Colourpop describe it as a 'bright lavender pink' [with a satin finish] and that hint of lavender is really what makes it unique. It wears for five hours on me.

What I liked:
  • Amazing colour pay off
  • Smooth, lightly creamy texture
  • That mattes don't drag, tug or skip
  • Non feathering
  • Non drying
  • Last between four and seven hours
  • $5! I mean, come on! What is this wizardry?!
What I didn't like:
  • Button was very minimally drying towards the end of wear
Where to buy:
Have you tried Colourpop yet? Anything tickling your fancy?
