NYX Butter Lipstick - Hunk Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

The super popular NYX Butter lipsticks have been out for quite a while now but I, ever late to a band wagon, hadn't given them a try until I picked this one up on a whim recently. I kinda have mixed experiences with NYX; I love their Soft Matte Lip Creams but feel so-so about the Round lipsticks. My lovely friend Nicola (aka Leona Carolina's Closet) wanted to know what I thought of the Butter lipsticks so I bumped this to the top of the review pile - which reminds me, if there's something you really want to see reviewed, please let me know and I'll see what I can do!

NYX Butter Lipstick - Hunk Swatches & Review

One awesome thing about the Butter lipsticks is that the packaging is matched to the lipstick colour inside. The packaging is lightweight plastic and feels a little cheap and flimsy - there is a large crack in the clear plastic on my tube (it can be seen on the underside of the lipstick in the photo below). The Butter lipsticks do retail for a very inexpensive $6USD though, so I suppose I can't really expect the packaging to be super strong!

NYX Butter Lipstick - Hunk Swatches & Review

Hunk is a berry creme with ultra subtle shimmer (I can see it in the tube, but I can't spot it at all on the lips) and mostly opaque colour pay off. It's buildable and semi glossy with some slip. Hunk is a little patchy and sheer so I found it a little tricky to get a really crisp edge to my lipline. It wore for three and a half hours, losing some shine over time and looking more like a lipstain by the end of wear. It wasn't drying, didn't feather or migrate and left some staining. The NYX Butter lipsticks have no scent that I can pick up.

What I liked:
  • Non drying
  • Buildable colour pay off
  • Doesn't feather or migrate
What I didn't like:
  • A little patchy & sheer
  • Packaging feels lightweight and flimsy (my tube has a crack)
Where to buy:
I want to love this, but my first experience with the NYX Butter lipsticks is just a bit meh. I think I'll stick to the Soft Matte Lip Creams for now!

MAC Monday: MAC X Osbournes - Peaches & Cream and Cheeky Bugger Swatches & Review

MAC
Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

It's been a while since we did a MAC Monday, huh? Today I have the two blushes from MAC's collaboration with Kelly and Sharon Osbourne in June 2014. These have been in rotation in my collection for a while now and I really like them, I'm so glad I tracked them down!

Peaches & Cream

MAC Monday: MAC X Osbournes - Peaches & Cream Swatches & Review

This collection featured opposite and contrasting packaging - red with purple signatures for Sharon and purple with red signatures for Kelly. A very cool touch that tied the collection together well.

MAC Monday: MAC X Osbournes - Peaches & Cream Swatches & Review

Peaches & Cream is a medium pink with a satin finish. It has medium colour pay off and blends out beautifully with a soft, subtle sheen. Peaches & Cream lasts all day on me. I think this is the only thing I have from Sharon's side of the collection (I still want the MSF though!) - Kelly's was definitely the show stealer, but Peaches & Cream is the quiet achiever that definitely shouldn't be overlooked.

Cheeky Bugger is a peachy pink with a satin finish and more prominent shimmer than Peaches & Cream. It has lovely colour pay off and blends well but I did notice that it kicked up more powder in the pan than many of my MAC blushes. The powderiness didn't translate to the skin though, and it wore for around seven hours on me before needing to be touched up.

What I liked:
  • Both shades have great colour pay off
  • Soft, blendable textures
  • Cheeky Bugger lasts seven hours
  • Peaches & Cream lasts all day
What I didn't like:
  • Cheeky Bugger kicks up a bit of powder up in the pan
Start your hunt here:

Did you buy anything from the Osbournes collection? What do you think of these blushes?

A dusty blue base which glows with lavender shimmer and holo sparks. It dries a little more muted alone, so I added topcoat to bring out the shimmer.

Femme Fatale - Who is Fairest of Them All?, 3 coats alone
2 coats over Kleancolor - Black (1 coat)

Soooo I didn't actually realise Who is Fairest of Them All? was a thermal when I swatched it! I was painting my nails and looking at the bottle colour and the swatch stick I'd done and was getting very confused until I spotted a hint of deeper purple along my free edge.
"I think this is a thermal!" I announced to my husband, flapping my hands at him excitedly.
"Cool, bud," he replied, eyeing me with mild amusement while I pressed my fingertips to the cold of his beer bottle and peered at them, looking for a change.

As you can see, I got it to change. It was a hot night when I swatched this and Mike had to put up with me running back and forth from my lighting set up to his beer bottle to get the colour change to show up again. If you have longer nails than I currently do you won't have to have work hard at all to get the change to show because it is actually very sensitive; it was just the warm night and short nails not giving it much room to perform on its own :)
The colour shift doesn't show so much over black, but the glitter looks pretty cool that way. I love Who is Fairest of Them All? on its own though. It's delicate yet blingy and a pleasure to apply.

Femme Fatale - Weed in Her Heart, 3 coats
2 coats over Kleancolor - Black (1 coat)

Hnnnnggggghhhh. Weed in Her Heart is another favourite from this collection. Although I generally prefer my polishes to eschew the visible nail line, I can't say no to this vibrant teal, especially when it has gorgeous contrasting pink shimmer! I think if you layered this over matching undies you'd have a perfect Rescue Beauty Lounge Aqua Lily dupe. Although sheer, it's not streaky and it looks lovely over black too.

Femme Fatale - Glass Coffin, 3 coats

By the time I got to Glass Coffin in my swatchathon I was wise to the ways of sneaky thermals and was on the look out for a colour shift - this one didn't disappoint! Glass Coffin is a little sheer but was mostly opaque after three coats. This was a surprise favourite of mine :)

Another absoluely mindblowing shade. How does Sophie cram so much awesomeness into one bottle without it turning into a hot mess? Her ability to balance all these elements is just phenomenal. There's a lot of glittery goodness going on here so Art of Witchcraft dries with a little texture, but nothing a lick of HK Girl can't take care of.

Index & pinky: Femme Fatale - Mirror, Mirror on the Wall..., 3 coats alone

Ring: Kleancolor - Black, 1 coat + Mirror, Mirror on the Wall... 2 coats

Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat

Here's another really versatile polish. I've layered Mirror Mirror on the Wall over Weed in Her Heart (my favourite combo) and a black creme to show you how it looks over different bases but as you can see it is just as blingy on its own! I really can't get enough of the pinky purple shimmer Sophie favours, it never gets old for me. This is a really glittery one so I used some top coat to smooth things out.

Femme Fatale - Bodice Lace, 2.5 coats

Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat

Last but not least is Bodice Lace, a vibrant royal purple. There's some magenta glitter in here which dominates but there's flecks of other colours too - I'm sure I spy some teal. I used 2 and half coats because I flubbed application and didn't apply Bodice Lace as evenly as I could have on some nails, but by painting more carefully you can definitely get it opaque in two coats. I used a bit of top coat to smooth out the glitter on this one too.
