Darling Girl Liquid Kiss Balm Gloss - Ruby Rose, Princess of the Amazons, Leeloo and I'm Into Survival Swatches & Review

I've been binging hard on Darling Girl lately, I can't get enough of the beautiful, unique colours and great formulas. I mean, can you blame me? Look at these Balm Glosses! They're to die for. I previously tried the Taupe-Tation Balm Gloss (reviewed here) and really enjoyed it, so it was only a matter of time until I tried some new colours. After much perusal I settled on four - go big or go home, right?

Formula overview:
Balm Glosses are a semi-opaque lip gloss with a thin, smooth, non-sticky and lightweight formula. As you might expect from the name, it does indeed have a balmy feel and plenty of hydration to boot. The scent is lovely - a little fruity and lightly sweet, my nose picks up hints of maple syrup and banana -  without being cloying or too artificial.

The Balm Glosses come in 3ml click pens with brush applicators which I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with. The squared off brush tip makes it very easy to outline and fill in your lips (the lip swatches below were all applied neat from the pen), but the click dispenser, as with most of its kind, takes forever to get started and to push more product up. I much prefer the standard lipgloss tubes with the doefoot applicators, which you can see in some of the pictures; these were temporary packaging when Susan ran out of click pens. Unfortunately they are apparently very difficult to fill evenly and the click pens remain the most practical packaging choice for the formula.

Ruby Rose is a 'rich berry with blue iridescence'. It builds up to be mostly opaque easily without getting thick and goopy on your lips (a pet hate of mine!), as shown in the swatch, or can be worn more sheerly for a more stained effect. It wore for just under five hours on me, leaving plenty of sparkle behind after the colour had disappeared.

Princess of the Amazons is described as a 'hot red with an abundance of shifting blue to purple holo-sparkle'. It reads as a deep coral-red to me with the blue aspect to the shimmer being strongest and it wears for a bit over four hours. I've already worn this shade a couple of times, it's absolutely gorgeous!

Leeloo is a 'burnt orange loaded with shifting pink to orange holo sparkle'. It wore for four and a half hours and as it wore away, the shine disappeared, leaving behind an even orange tint and plenty of sparkle.

I'm Into Survival  is described as a 'hot pink loaded with blue holo-sparkle'; it's a medium pink with cool leanings and comes from the Halloween Queens of Horror collection. The shimmer in this one felt more textured than the other Balm Glosses I have tried, a slight grittiness could be felt when my lips pressed or rubbed together. It wasn't unpleasant or painful and I stopped noticing it pretty quickly, but worth mentioning! I'm Into Survival wore for three hours on me, leaving a faint amount of colour and sparkle after it had largely worn away.

What I liked:
  • Buildable, even colour pay off
  • Hydrating
  • No feathering or migration
  • Wear time ranged between three and five hours

What I didn't like:
  • I'm Into Survival feels slightly gritty

Where to buy:

  • Darling Girl Cosmetics, 3ml for $5.50USD (old store, you can still purchase but it is not being updated with new products) or $6USD at the new store

What do you think of these pretties? Which is your favourite?
