W7 Go West! Matte & West End Girls Lipstick - Pink Candy, Powder Pink, Perfect Pink & Impulse Buy Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

One of these lipsticks was aptly named because these were a total impulse buy. I don't usually buy a bunch of shades before trying out a formula (usually one or two), but on the day I stumbled across these in Postie I was feeling in a particularly frivolous mood it seems!

The West End Girls formula is supposed to 'Give your lips a gorgeous pop of moisturising colour' while the Go West! range delivers 'Rich matte colour' that 'glides effortlessly across lips. Silky smooth, moisturising colour in all six shades.'
Generally, both formulas have a slippery feeling which means that some of the colours require more attention to even them out. The colour often seems to have a grainy look rather than opaque pigment but I found they generally sat better once they had warmed up on the lips. Most of them don't have any discernible scent and I found them neither hydrating nor drying.
I believe these may be discontinued as I can no longer see them on the W7 website, however they can be easily found at Postie stores in New Zealand or discount e-tailers online.

Both lines of lipstick come in glossy black plastic cases with clear caps showing the colour inside. The caps click shut securely and the whole caboodle feels pretty sturdy. One thing that really irks me, though, is the name label. To open the lipstick when brand new, you need to peel it back so you either need to fold it underneath the cap (you can see below that that is what I chose to do) or be prepared to slice it open. Some may prefer to remove the label altogether but the shade name isn't present anywhere else on the lipstick so if knowing the name of your lipstick is important to you, that's a bit of a no-go. Not to mention the ingredient list is also on the same label as the colour name and I know a lot of people like to keep that handy. I'm sure it wouldn't have been that difficult to reconfigure the labelling and use shrink wrap as a safety seal.

Pink Candy is a pale cool toned pink. It's mostly opaque and wore for just under four hours on me without being drying or moisturising. Oddly, it didn't want to stick to the inner part of my lips, not sure what that was about!

Impulse Buy is a light lavender. Hopefully you can see what I mean about the colour looking grainy - it's mostly opaque but doesn't look quite even, there's some patchiness. Impulse Buy was also prone to forming lines where my lips naturally meet, which you can see the beginning of in the swatch. It wore for three hours and wasn't drying.
This is a great option for dipping your toes into the light purple lipstick trend, particularly if you're not sure that you'll like it but the opacity needs work.

Powder Pink is a pretty honeysuckle pink. I want to love this because the colour is very me but it has the same grainy colour pay off as Impulse Buy; you can see it forming demarcation lines too. It wore for just two and a half hours.

Perfect Pink is a hot pink and is the grainiest of the lot. From a normal viewing distance (below) it doesn't look too bad, but up close... it's just not a pretty picture. And it looked so promising in the tube, too! This had the longest wear time though, lasting four and a half hours.

What I liked:
  • Non drying
  • Budget friendly (I paid $10 at Postie)
  • Some of the graininess seems to disappear after they have warmed on the lips for a bit
What I didn't like:
  • Grainy, uneven application
  • Clings to imperfections
  • Forms lines during wear
  • Name label needs to be removed, bent or cut to open the lipstick when brand new
  • Not moisturising as claimed
Where to buy:
  • Postie (NZ)
  • Ebay (Go West! Matte)
  • Ebay (West End Girls)
