MAC Pink Plaid Lipstick Swatches & Review

MAC
Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

Why hello there! What's this? I'm posting a permanent, readily accessible MAC product? What madness is this?
Yes, it's true - today I'll be sharing swatches & a review of Pink Plaid lipstick with you, and unlike the denizens of MAC Monday, this shade is available permanently at any MAC counter. This cool pink rose is a very popular shade among MAC fans and with its fabulous colour pay off it's easy to see why!

MAC Pink Plaid Lipstick Swatches & Review

Pink Plaid is described as a 'dirty blue-pink' by MAC and it has a Matte finish. I think their colour description is pretty accurate, the dirtiness of the shade lends it a neutral quality so that you can pair it with just about anything. While cool toned pinks aren't always my favourite, I really like this.
Texture-wise, Pink Plaid is MAC's matte formula at its best. It has just enough creaminess to glide over lips without pulling or tugging and although it will pick up flaws, it's not as blatantly unforgiving as some matte formulas. I get bang on four hours wear from Pink Plaid without it drying out my lips or migrating. MAC lipsticks have a vanilla scent.

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Wears for four hours
  • Vanilla scent
  • Non drying
What I didn't like:
  • Nothing!

What do you think of Pink Plaid? Have you tried this classic MAC lipstick?

Moisture Mist Blusher B03 Plum Rose Swatches & Review

Provided for review

Hey lovelies,

Moisture Mist have been impressing me with their offerings of late and Plum Rose blush is no exception. This shade of blush is one of three shades that have been rereleased in pretty pink limited edition packaging for summer but is available in pan form year round. If you're looking to take advantage of Moisture Mist's current gift with purchase offer, the pan version of Plum Rose is included in that offer but the limited edition packaging unfortunately isn't.

The packaging for this edition of Plum Rose is very cute, with it being housed in bright pink cardboard packaging with a floral design. Inside there's a tiny floppy blush brush which can be good in a pinch but lacks the density and size to really perform well. I'd prefer to see Moisture Mist switch to a larger pan size rather than add the brush,

Moisture Mist Blusher B03 Plum Rose Swatches & Review

Plum Rose is a neutral brown rose with a finely milled, silky texture and excellent pigmentation. It kicks up a little excess powder in the pan but this powderiness doesn't translate on skin at all. It sits beautifully on skin and can be worn sheerly or built up for more impact.
The neutral factor makes it workable on varying complexions - I've been using it on myself (MAC NC15 or Estee Lauder Double Wear Ivory Nude for reference) for everyday and my mother and mother-in-law (both Estee Lauder Double Wear Pebble, considerably darker and more olive) for my wedding and it looks great on all of us if I do say so myself. The last power is also worth writing home about, hanging on for ten hours before fading evenly at the eleventh hour.

What I liked:
  • Great pigmentation
  • Finely milled, smooth, blendable texture
  • Lasts eight hours before beginning to fade evenly
What I didn't like:
  • Kicks up a little excess powder in pan
  • Brush is a bit useless!
Where to buy:
I'm super impressed by Plum Rose and am hanging out to check out more of Moisture Mist's blushes. What do you think of it? Have you tried any of Moisture Mist blushes before?

Moisture Mist Translucent Pressed Powder - Bronze Swatches & Review

Provided for review

Hey lovelies,

Here's a lovely bronzer I mentioned in my recent post about the current Moisture Mist gift with purchase offer (which is still running until the 1st of March): their Translucent Pressed Powder in the shade Bronze.

Moisture Mist Translucent Pressed Powder - Bronze Swatches & Review

Moisture Mist Translucent Pressed Powder - Bronze Swatches & Review

Let's get one thing out of the way, the name of the product is pretty confusing: a translucent pressed powder is generally a setting product and Bronze is neither translucent nor something you'd really want to apply all over your face. It's a bronzer with even, buildable colour pay off. The packaging further confuses things by including a little sponge, which I can't see many people applying bronzer with. To be honest, I didn't even try a full application with it after tentatively dabbing it on my face - I've been alternating between a ZA retractable kabuki brush and an angled blush brush. Much more precise!
Bronze comes boxed in Moisture Mist's standard brick red packaging with gold accents. I would love to see them revamp the whole look of their line to something fresher and more modern - and I know they have it in them because they periodically bring out gorgeous limited edition packaging for their Beauty Cake and more recently one of their blushes. I know I said the exact same thing with my Beauty Cake review, but I'm just not feeling the red and gold. It's too dated and makes it far too easy to skip over the quality products inside.

Bronze looks very sparkly in the pan and in the heavy swatch on the left, but as you can see in the sheerer swatch, that glitter all but dissipates once blended, leaving skin glowing and lightly tanned. In the look below I'm wearing it along my cheekbones and very lightly along the hairline and jawline.
Bronze has buildable colour pay off, is easy to apply and diffuse and wears wonderfully for eight hours or more.

What I liked:
  • Wears for eight hours or more

  • Blends and applies easily

Yo Wedding | Bridesmaid Makeup: Amy

Purchased by Amy and I/Provided for review/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

I hope you enjoyed my previous bridesmaids makeup post. Today I'll be showing you another of my bridesmaids, Amy, and the slightly different tones we've chosen to compliment her colouring.

Beach retro bridesmaid makeup

From my original post:
We're blending some classic fifties glamour with a beachy bohemian vibe which translates more with the dress, shoes and hair accessories (though you'll have to wait to see those!). The makeup is intended to mirror that, with matte red lips, fluttery lashes, glowing cheeks and skin and golden tones on the eyes. As we're having the wedding on Great Barrier Island, everything needs to be long wearing, capable of withstanding the heat, lots of wine and good food and perhaps even a few tears.

If you like this look, here's the product breakdown!

FACE
MAC Strobe Cream (6)
ELF Clear Mineral Infused Primer (16)
MAC Matchmaster Concealer 3.5 (4)
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup 3W1 Tawny (8)
TheBalm Nude 'Tude Palette (3)
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Dark Deep (10)
MAC Make You Mine Prolongwear Blush (2)
Kiko Water Eyeshadow #208 (18)
TheBodyNeeds Transparent Finishing Powder (15)
Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray (17)

For a medium-full coverage base, we've opted for MAC Matchmaster Concealer (4and Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup (8), first prepping skin with MAC Strobe Cream (6and ELF Mineral Infused Primer in Clear (16). With fuller coverage comes the need to add dimension back in though, so we're contouring lightly with Sleek, a matte brown eyeshadow from TheBalm's Nude 'Tude palette (3before warming up Amy's hairline and cheeks with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Dark Deep (10). MAC Prolongwear Blush in Make You Mine (2) is the perfect coral shade to make Amy's skin absolutely glow.
Finally we'll highlight Amy's cheekbones with Kiko Water Eyeshadow #208 (apparently a dupe for the much coveted and discontinued MAC Extradimension Skinfinish in Whisper of Gilt) (18before setting everything in place with TheBodyNeeds Transparent Finishing Powder (15) and Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray (17) for good measure.

EYES
Covergirl Shadowblast - Beige Blaze
LORAC Pro Palette - Cream all over lid, Sable in crease, Espresso to deepen (1)
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette - Half Baked all over lid, Foxy to blend out, Bootycall to highlight (19)
ZA Liquid Eyeliner BK999 Real Black* (7)
Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara* (5)
Ardell Accent #318 lashes (11)

We need Amy's eyeshadow to last all night so we're going for a double whammy of primer (Covergirl Shadowblast in Beige Blaze is an unfortunately discontinued two in one eyeshadow & primer that I've had great success with over the past few years) and Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, a sticky base that holds onto shadows like nobody's business. It doesn't perform well with mattes and isn't a primer in itself though, so we first need to lay down a wash of Cream from the LORAC Pro palette (1before going in with Sable and Espresso to define the socketline. A tiny dab of Pixie Epoxy spread out on the lid is all we need to make Half Baked from the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette (19) look more vibrant and keep it in place all day. Foxy and Bootycall from the same palette soften any harsh edges and highlight.
Keeping up with the retro vibe, a slash of liquid eyeliner - ZA's pen style in BK999 Real Black, which will last all day even in the Barrier heat - and Ardell Accent #318 lashes (11give a fluttery but not overdone look. We've used half lashes on Amy because she can't tolerate the feeling of a full lash band. The half lashes however are much more lightweight. We'll use Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara to blend Amy's lashes with the falsies because it curls and defines easily and is budge proof, effortlessly lasting through sweat and tears (blood not yet tested. If we happen to have it with us in the apocalypse, we'll let you know how it goes).

BROWS
ZA Brow Liner GY951 Natural Grey* (13)
MAC Clear Brow Set

Simple and sweet here, ZA Brow Liners are waterproof and budge proof and GY951 Natural Grey is dark enough to match Amy's eyebrows, but soft enough in colour that it doesn't look harsh. MAC Clear Brow Set tames any unruly hairs.

LIPS
Covergirl Lip Perfection Lip Liner - Passion (12)
Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Cream - NY-CEE (14)

For the perfect red lip, we're pairing Covergirl Lip Perfection lip liner in Passion with Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Cream in NY-CEE. NY-CEE doesn't need a lip liner to prevent feathering but it can take a little more effort than we'll have time for on the wedding day to apply precisely. By lining and partially filling in lips with the Covergirl liner (which as a bonus boosts longevity) we can cheat a bit by using to get the perfect lip shape, then filling them in with the Velourlips. NY-CEE is one of my favourite Velourlips shades because it's gorgeous and has one of the best formulas of the bunch! You can check out my full review here.

NAILS
Pretty Serious - Dangerous Curves Ahead (9)

The finishing touch is this dusty pink, which will be stamped or dotted with white polka dots to match the other bridesmaids' dresses.

What do you think of the chosen makeup look? I can't wait to share photos of the big day!

MAC Monday: MAC X Marilyn Monroe - The Perfect Cheek Blush Swatches & Review

MAC
Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

I've admired Marilyn Monroe for as long as I can remember, but somehow most of the MAC X Marilyn Monroe collection slipped by me when it first launched. I've been slowly gathering the items on my wishlist over the years and was pleased to recently get my hands on The Perfect Cheek blush.
Although it didn't grab my attention too much when it launched with the Marilyn collection in 2012 (and it wasn't even on my radar when it previously launched with Makeup Art Cosmetics in 2009), I've been craving some variation from my usual coral or warm pink blush choices lately, so The Perfect Cheek couldn't have come at a better time.

This collection features beautiful black and white images of Marilyn on glossy black packaging, with her signature red lips inside the open boxes and a scarlet signature across each image.

The Perfect Cheek is a rosy neutral beige which seems unassuming in the pan and in the arm swatch, but comes to life on cheeks. It's subtle, glowing, pared back and dominating all at the same time. I absolutely loved it from the minute I began to apply it and have been reaching for it often since. In fact, with its eleven hour wear time and soft, easy to blend texture, it's the blush I've chosen for my wedding.

Guest Post from Nail Girl: Powder Perfect Maneater Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

Today I have a guest post for you from my lovely friend Lexie from Nailgirl.net. Lexie always has incredible nail polish swatches and her lipstick posts are to die for as well. I highly recommend checking out her blog and her Instagram, @nailgrrl.

Thanks for inviting me to guest post, Lani!

Today, I have a really unique polish in my collection to show you – Powder Perfect Maneater. It’s a teal holographic polish with teal glitters throughout, creating a really gorgeous iridescent effect. The holo effect in direct sunlight is much stronger than I've been able to show. Trust me, it’s gorgeous!

Powder Perfect Maneater Swatches & Review

Here, I've done two buttery coats with one coat of top coat. One of the things I really like about the formula is how the glitter is not so dense that it will create a rough surface, even when a top coat has been used. I couldn't stop staring at my hands when this was on – I haven’t worn any holos for a while, so this was a very welcome, very pretty change of pace.

I purchased my bottle from Mei Mei’s Signatures, but Powder Perfect polishes are also available from Harlow & Co and Color4Nails.

Thanks again Lani for inviting me to be one of your guest posters!
