ELF Matte Lip Color - Coral and Praline Swatches & Review

Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

I love a great quality budget friendly lipstick and these ELF Matte Lip Colors don't disappoint.  I first saw swatches of these on Cassandramyee (an awesome fellow kiwi blogger you should absolutely check out if you haven't already!) and had to give them a shot after Cass's positive review. Let's take a look at the shades I chose!

ELF Matte Lip Color - Praline Swatches & Review

ELF Matte Lip Colors come boxed in black packaging with colour co-ordinated trim, while the lipsticks themselves are in simple matte black tubes. The end caps match the colour inside, making it easy to tell them apart in a hurry and that end cap actually comes off to reveal a tiny sharpener so you can keep the tip nice and sharp for precise application. You get a decent amount of product in these and the winding mechanism works smoothly. ELF Matte Lip Colors have a faint synthetic 'makeup' scent I don't know quite how to describe! It's not apparent unless I put my nose to the lipstick and really try to smell it.

Coral is a nude-coral - it's neutral enough to pass for a nude and would go with just about anything. Coral applies with a bit of sheen but becomes more matte after half an hour or so. It can pick up flaws in your lips and is prone to forming lines when your lips are pressed together, so you'll want to make sure your lips are in good condition before applying. Coral wore for four and a half hours and wasn't drying.

Praline is like the love child of MAC Styled in Sepia and Bad Girl Riri. It's a warm rosy brown which, like Coral, applies with some sheen and becomes more matte over time. Application was great, it applies smoothly with a creamy texture. I'm not really sure that Praline suits me, but I kinda like it anyway! It was minimally drying by the end of its wear time, which was four and a half hours.

What I liked:
  • Both shades have great opacity
  • Wore for four and a half hours
  • Coral wasn't drying
  • Neither shade feathers, bleeds or migrates
  • Both shades apply smoothly with a creamy texture

What I didn't like:
  • Praline was minimally drying toward the end of wear
  • Coral can emphasize flaws or form lines

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paints - Babydoll, Bombshell and Coy Swatches & Review

Prize/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

I don't have a great track record with liquid lipsticks. I flail in their general direction with lip liners, foundations and concealers, but the majority of them still leave me underwhelmed. Feathering, migration, product all over my teeth - no thanks! LA Girl's Glazed Lip Paints are an exception.

I'd been eyeing them up for a while before I was lucky enough to win a few of them in a giveaway and...

I may love them so much that I've now purchased all but one of the eighteen shades available (I skipped Gleam, a shimmery orangey brown). Here are the three shades that started it, Babydoll, Bombshell and Coy.

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paints - Babydoll, Bombshell and Coy Swatches & Review

The LA Girl Glazed Lip Paints offer 'super intense color' and an 'extra glossy finish', which these three shades definitely deliver on. They come in squeezy tubes with a slanted plastic applicator. The applicator isn't very precise, so my preference is to use a lip brush first to outline my lips and then use the applicator to fill them in. I would have liked to see a sponge tip, like the Too Faced Melted lipsticks that these emulate have, or a doe foot applicator wand like the Australis Pout Pastes.
The Glazed Lip Paints have a light peppermint scent which mostly fades after an hour and they feel emollient on the lips - not tacky or sticky.

Babydoll is a light blue based pink. It has impressive opacity, particularly for a light shade and applied beautifully. Babydoll wore for four hours on me and was very comfortable to wear. It didn't migrate or feather.

Bombshell is a bright fuchsia pink. It's so saturated and I love it - definitely my favourite of these three shades. It wears for four hours, is comfortable to wear but had the tiniest amount of feathering after a few hours. The glossiness became more muted after two hours and there was a stain after the colour had worn away.

Coy is a bright medium purple which is slightly on the warmer side, but it's still a truer purple than generally seen in budget-friendly lipsticks. Like the other shades, it wore for four hours and was really comfortable to wear. Coy was ever so slightly more translucent than Babydoll and Bombshell and you can see a bit of my natural lip colour peeking through in the close-up. This wasn't really apparent in person, though.

What I liked:
  • All of the shades had great colour pay off
  • All of them wore for four hours
  • Coy and Babydoll did not feather, bleed or migrate
  • Really comfortable to wear - they are not drying at all.
  • No sticky or tacky texture
What I didn't like:
  • Difficult to get precise application with the slanted plastic tip
  • Bombshell had a very small amount of feathering

Melt Cosmetics - Summer! Lipstick Swatches & Review

Purchased by me

Hey lovelies,

Have you tried any Melt lipsticks yet? I'd been drooling over them for a while before I bought my first one and I've gotta tell you, they're worse than a can of Pringles - once you pop you can't stop. Since purchasing Summer! a few months ago in a destash I have somehow bought seven more. Honestly, I don't even know how this stuff happens. It's like my Paypal account has a mind of its own.

Melt Cosmetics - Summer! Lipstick Swatches & Review

Melt lipsticks come boxed, but my lipstick was missing the box as it was purchased from a destash as mentioned above. The tube is long (longer than a MAC lipstick) and matte black with the Melt logo printed on it in purple. The packaging is of very nice quality - I love the attention to detail Melt have put in. They have made no compromises in ensuring the quality matches the $19USD price point. Bonus for the animal lovers - Melt are cruelty free and this particular shade is also vegan.

Melt Cosmetics - Summer! Lipstick Swatches & Review

Summer! is an ultra-matte peachy-orange. On some people it looks much peachier but on me the orange leanings seem a lot stronger. It has awesome colour pay off and applies smoothly from the tube without dragging or skipping the way some super matte lipsticks can. Summer! can emphasise flaws however, so prepping your lips is a must! It lasted on me for just over four hours and was very comfortable to wear, I didn't find it drying at all (always a pleasant surprise with a matte!).
Melt lipsticks have a vanilla cake scent which I enjoy, but in Summer! there's also a kind of play-doh undertone that I don't love. I've noticed that with my newer Melt lipsticks the vanilla cake scent is a lot stronger and I barely notice the play-doh aspect, so I'm not sure if it's something that becomes more prevalent over time or the scent has just been tweaked. Worth noting, anyway.

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Really comfortable to wear, not drying at all
  • Lasts for 4 hours

What I didn't like:
  • Can emphasise flaws if lips are not properly prepped
  • The vanilla cake scent

Two Weeks of FOTDs

Purchased by me/Provided for review/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

Guys, I have had the worst luck with cold sores lately. Two of the nasty blighters in as many weeks! I don't know about you, but when my lips are looking icky, my motivation to make-up the rest of my face is nil. I'm an all or nothing kinda gal. I really, really wanted to power through some holiday lipstick set reviews before Christmas but my lips just haven't been co-operating. Hopefully I can get them done before the end of the month though. Anyway, here are the makeup looks from in between the cold sore plagues!
