Introducing... The PANZ Blog!

Hey lovelies,

Sorry there's been no post today, my babies have been ill and I've been mega busy on a project - and here it is!
I'm super excited to share the launch of the PANZ (Polish Addicts of New Zealand) blog with you! Some of you may know that I founded the PANZ group on Facebook in November 2012 and NZ Makeup Junkies shortly after. The two groups have come so far and we have some completely amazing members so the PANZ blog is intended to shine a spotlight on them. Expect to see kiwi bloggers, Instagrammers and Youtubers, indie buinesses, photos from meet ups and more. At the moment we're a few days into an intro series, 'Meet The Ladies Of PANZ', which has been lots of fun getting to know everyone better.

I hope you'll pop on over and take a peek!

Twinsy Thursdays: Hello Kitty Red My Lips Lipstick

Purchased by me

Hey lovelies,

Today Nicola (Leona Carolina's Closet) and I will be showing you a mega adorable lippy, Red My Lips from the Hello Kitty line available at Postie. Why are they mega adorable, you ask? Well, because GIANT HELLO KITTY HEADS.

Hello Kitty Red My Lips Lipstick

Yes, they look like something that escaped the play makeup bag of a small girl. But in a good way, you know? And the colour pay off is pretty darn awesome. Anyway, onto showing you how I wore Red My Lips :)

Hello Kitty Red My Lips Lipstick

I decided to for a classic look today, softly defined neutral eyes to compliment the red lip. I layered Red My Lips over Covergirl Lip Perfection lipliner in Passion for precision and to prevent feathering (though Nicola reports that it did not feather on her without lipliner) but it's already wonderfully opaque by itself; scroll on down for a lip swatch.

Neutral eye makeup

Sorry about the slightly bloodshot eyes, both my babies have been down with fevers and we've had some rough wakeful nights!

Swatched on bare lips, no liner.

I will not ever never get sick of red lipstick (We've been reading Charlie & Lola again at our house)! Head on over to Nicola's blog to see how she wore Red My Lips, and check back soon for a full review of the Hello Kitty lippies :)

NZ Indie Polish Month: Star Kin Sage Advice Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

I'm being a bit of a sneak today and posting older swatches that I've only recently got round to cropping and watermarking :)

Star Kin Sage Advice is a gorgeous green texture polish with lots of gold glitter. The opacity is great, I only needed 2 coats. I've been really into sparkly textures of late, I like the more opaque ones and spend way too much time rubbing the pads of my fingers over the textured nails. Okay, that sounds mega weird but I bet all of you who wear textured polish do it too! The wear time of Sage Advice was a bit average, chipping on the second day, but I didn't really mind since I change my polish pretty often.

Teexxxxxtuuuuuure.

NZ Indie Polish Month: Star Kin My Favourite Martians Swatches & Review

Gift

Hey lovelies,

NZ Indie Polish Month is drawing to a close! *Sniffles* I'm hoping to squeeze in a few more posts before the month is through, though. Join us using the hash tag #nzindiepolish!

Today's polish is both sheer perfection and infinitely cruel because you cannot buy this polish. My Favourite Martians is a special polish Ami occasionally gifts, but don't cry - she has other holo/duochromes (holochromes? Duoholos?) to mend your broken heart. Check out my Star Kin swatch masterpost to see Gold Rush, Orion and Con Shift for starters :)

The formula for My Favourite Martians, a blurple duochrome with a holo effect, is Star Kin at its best, it covers nicely in 3 coats and the colour shift is strong. As always with these polishes, photos do not do it justice and the shift and holo effect are so much stronger in real life, but I've done my best. Prepare for some picture spam!

Mmmhmmm, purple shift.

Why yes, this is still the same polish.

Hnnnggghhhhh. Bottled sexiness. I'll treasure it forever, thank you Ami <3

Toswoong Makeon Princess Limited Edition Season 2 Eyeliners - Swatches & Review

Purchased by me

Hey lovelies,

Today I have the final set of Tosowoong Makeon Princess Eyeliner sets to show you, Season 2 (I also have swatches & reviews of Seasons 1 and 3). Initially I wasn't sure I needed this set because I don't wear a lot of blue and purple typically and didn't think I'd use those ones, but I'm super glad I did because I loooove all the colours!

Honestly at this point I feel like I could quite happily buy every eyeliner Tosowoong puts out because I find them to be consistently high quality and the lasting power is just fantastic, especially given how oily my lids get. It's a shame my money tree refuses to yield anything!

Season 2 bears a nautically themed mermaid, which is super cute. I love her makeup! (Pssst Tosowoong, please make blush and lippy, k thanx.)

This set comes in blue packaging, with the names and a cute description. I really appreciate that there is an English translation as one of the perils of Korean beauty addiction is that you often have to google shade names and translations.

Now we come to the eyeliners! Left to right: #S07 My First Time Purple, #S08 Aqua Deep Blue, #S09 Wild Real Khaki, #S10 Lovely Wedding Peach and #S11 Happy Valentine Choco

Swatched on bare skin. I love how shimmery these liners are. The colour pay off on all of the eyeliners is great - Aqua Deep Blue is the sheerest of the five and can be a little patchy, but it's wonderfully sparkly and can be built up to remedy any patchiness. Aqua Deep Blue also has the chunkiest sparkle of those swatched here, calling to mind the Holika Holika highlighting shades (24 Carat Gold, 1 Carat Diamond and Pink Topaz, swatched here); the other shades have a smoother shimmer. I really like that the shimmer in these eyeliners doesn't irritate my eyes and it doesn't migrate over the course of the day either. The wear time of these liners is fantastic, they don't crease or disappear and they survive a trip to the beach.
Tosowoong eyeliners are very easy to sharpen, though there can be a little wastage because the product itself is somewhat soft. This softness is handy too though, it stops the eyeliners from skipping or dragging during application, and it means that you can pick up product easily with a liner brush if you'd like a more precise line.
Tosowoong claims these will work as eyeshadows too, but I have my doubts that all of them would perform well in that capacity, particularly Aqua Deep Blue. I haven't tested these shades as eyeshadow, but I did test Blonde, from the Season 3 set, and found that it felt quite tacky as an eyeshadow, creasing after 6 hours wear. However another shade from the same set, Deep Bronze, worked fine as an eyeshadow, so some experimentation may be required. Some of the shades are also a little harder to apply evenly as an eyeshadow.
I won't repeat myself regarding formula etc below, instead I'll show you a close up of each pencil and a look with each (full posts with further FOTD details will be hyperlinked).

What I liked:

  • Great colour pay off
  • Fantastic lasting power
  • Some shades work as an eyeshadow too
  • Can be smoked or blended out (though you'll need to be quick, they set fast!)
  • According to Tosowoong's Ebay listing, these are hypo-allergenic
  • Can be picked up cheaply
What I didn't like:
  • Not all of the shades double as eyeshadow
  • Aqua Deep Blue is a little patchy
Where to buy:

All of the shades in this set are available separately as well as in the set. It's worth checking out the Tosowoong store because they run a lot of auctions at lower prices than their Buy It Nows and it's very easy to pick up a bunch of these very cheaply - often with free shipping too!

Have you tried any Tosowoong eyeliners? What did you think?

NZ Indie Polish Month: Polished Kiwi Lacquer - Mermaid Magic Swatches & Review

Gift

Hey lovelies,

Next up for NZ Indie Polish month, a beautiful polish from a new to me indie brand, Polished Kiwi Lacquer by The Polished Kiwi. It's not too late to join the indie fun with the hash tag #nzindiepolish :)

Polished Kiwi Lacquer Mermaid Magic is an absolute stunner of a polish. Jade, the creator of Polished Kiwi Lacquer, posted swatches in the PANZ group and I fell in love right away! I was so thrilled and grateful when Jade sent me my very own bottle for my birthday - thank you, Jade! :)

Mermaid Magic has a lovely formula with great glitter distribution. The base is thick, almost gel like, but in a good way, if that makes sense! It's the kind of thickness that allows you to spread the glitter evenly across the nail without having to dab. I did find that I needed to fish for the circle glitters a bit initially, but inverting the bottle for a few minutes put paid to that. The glitter isn't too rough, one coat of top coat had everything pretty smooth. This is just one coat over China Glaze Custom Kicks, I think Mermaid Magic would be amazing as a glitter gradient.
