Provided for review

Hey lovelies,

Today's post is a hefty one! I was lucky enough to be selected by Eye of Horus NZ recently to review some of their products and was sent their popular Goddess mascara and one of the Goddess pencils too. I have reviews of both products and a tutorial with them to show you!

My items came beautifully packaged in black tissue with the Eye of Horus logo.

Goddess Mascara

Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara

The Goddess Masara claims these benefits:
  • Won't irritate eyes or sting
  • Easily removable use warm water to melt and dissolve waxes
  • Coats lashes evenly
  • Flexible brush glides with the lashes and curls & enhances lashes naturally
  • Natural based formula wont clump or clog
  • Conditions, nourishes and strengthens lash structure to assist with lash growth
  • Treatment that cares for your lashes

Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara

This mascara is rapidly becoming a cult favourite with makeup junkies. It comes in a lovely glossy black tube with the Eye of Horus logo. The brush is the firm yet flexible plastic kind which helps to grab every lash and provide definition.

Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara

It took a few goes for me to get the hang of this mascara, just because I typically do my makeup in stages when I have a minute to myself (I'm talking foundation in one step, eyeshadow 10 minutes later, walking around with mascara on one eye for half an hour..)! I found that the Goddess Mascara likes to be built up quickly, when I tried layering another coat on once it had already dried it wanted to clump. Not a problem for most I'm sure, but something to keep in mind if you like to add more makeup after work to go out and so forth.
The Goddess Mascara lengthens and defines while providing a bit of curl. I didn't really notice any volumising, which is at odds with Eye of Horus' claims. The long lasting claims however... guys. This is amazing. We all know you should always, always, always take off your makeup..... but. If you don't manage to because you're drunk/forgot/passed out while feeding the baby to sleep, the Goddess Mascara has your back. Your lashes will look just as perfect come morning as they did the night before, not a smudge in sight. The Goddess Mascara will also withstand a heavy crying session like it ain't no thaaaang. And a bath with splashy children.
It does however remove easily with warm water or a dedicated eye makeup remover (make up wipes won't cut it). Here's the Goddess Mascara in action:

Bronze Amulet Goddess Pencil

Eye of Horus Bronze Amulet

Eye of Horus Bronze Amulet

I have the Bronze Amulet Goddess pencil to show you too. The Goddess Pencil claims to be:
  • Amazing to highlight the eyes
  • A creamy rich formula that is easy to apply and is long-lasting
  • Waterproof & smudge-proof
  • Resists oil and perspiration with no fading

Eye of Horus Bronze Amulet

Eye of Horus Bronze Amulet swatch

Bronze Amulet is a rich coppery brown with shimmer. It is smudge proof as Eye of Horus claims, so much so that I'm not sure why they included a smudger. In the swatch above you can see the pencil alone (on the left) and smudged out with the included smudger (on the right). The pencil hasn't really smudged out at all, it's just a bit sheerer looking. I had the same results when I wore this pencil, although I smudged it right away after applying.
The lasting power is phenomenal, Eye of Horus are definitely meeting their claims! I often have trouble with pencil liners creasing above my lid over the course of the day and Bronze Amulet definitely didn't do that. The colour pay off is also good; you can build use it more lightly as I did on my lower lashline or build it up to a more opaque line as shown on my upper lashline.

What I liked:
  • The lasting power of both products is nothing short of phenomenal!
  • Goddess Mascara lengthens, defines and provides some curl
  • Goddess Mascara does not flake or smudge
  • Goddess Pencil has good colour payoff and doesn't flake, smudge or disappear

What I didn't like:
  • Goddess Mascara wasn't volumising on me
  • The smudger on the Goddess Pencil seemed a little pointless

Bronze Amulet Tutorial

And now I have a simple wee tutorial I've created for you using these products. I'd like to formally apologise for the state of my brows in these pictures, I don't know what the heck they were doing that day.

Eye of Horus tutorial

Start by laying down a base of your primer of choice, then pat a matte beige eyeshadow all over the lid up to the browbone.

Now apply a matte tan eyeshadow to the socket line using a fluffy crease brush.

Using Bronze Amulet, line along the lower and upper lashline, winging the liner out to a small flick. Smudge the liner along the lower lashline out a little to soften it.

Eye of Horus tutorial

Using a fine eyeliner brush, run a thin line of matte black eyeshadow close to the lashes for a bit of extra definition.

Add mascara and a shimmer highlight on the inner corner...

  1. I love that Goddess Pencil! I have something similar except it smudges horribly and wears off as the day goes on. I need to get myself one of these babies!

  2. I have the matte brown eye pencil, I find you need to work quickly to smudge it before it sets! My smudger has gone all gross and stiff now though since I hardly use it. I really like it for lining my waterline and tightlining, it doesn't budge (unless I cry haha)
