Interview with Nicole - Nicole's Beauty Spot

Hey lovelies,

This week's interview is with Nicole from Nicole's Beauty Spot! I'm loving seeing all of these up and coming bloggers, how about you?

Tell me a bit about you!
My name is Nicole and I'm 25 years old. I grew up in Wanganui and two years ago I moved to Tauranga for a fresh start. I am currently working at an amazing New Zealand owned clothing store called Bettie Monroe and I do hair and makeup on the side.

How did you first get into makeup and hairdressing? Do you have any special memories? Was there someone who got you into it?
In my last year of school I was set on becoming a hairdresser. I had modelled for hairdressing competitions since I was 15 and I had the same woman that I modelled for. Her name was Jess and she owned a salon called Renaissance Hair Design. She was amazing! She was young, fun, outgoing and so incredibly talented. I was just so inspired by her I decided that that was what I wanted to do with my life. So as soon as I left school I did my three years training and became qualified at top of my class. I then worked in a salon full time before moving to Tauranga. When I moved up here I wanted to further my education so makeup artistry was a natural progression.

What made you decide to start blogging?
I just love reading blogs myself! With only doing hair and makeup part time now I needed something I could pour my creative energy into. I love talking about anything beauty so I thought I would give it a go and I've had a great response so far!

How do you juggle blogging with work/family/other commitments?
It's pretty easy for me, I work in the clothing store part time and freelance part time so it's easy to dedicate time to my blog, I usually set aside a few hours and write a few in advance so if I get crazy busy I don't have to worry about not having a post up. I don't have any family up here and my partner doesn't mind me spending a few hours on the laptop in our down time.

Is there anything about blogging you find difficult or dislike? What has been your biggest challenge?
There isn't actually anything so far that I've found I don't like! I think because I've only been doing it for a short amount of time it's still a lot of fun. The biggest challenge would probably be thinking of content!! But I usually just read some blogs and that gives me plenty of inspiration.

Do you have any blogging/vlogging/Instagram role models? What do you admire about them?
I love Essie Button. She is a Youtuber and she has a blog and it's all amazing. She's so down to earth and real, she talks about real things and she has such a funny way of doing it. I also like Diva Hollands on Instagram, she's a new mum from England but I followed her before she was even pregnant. She's a part time model and has the most amazing tattoos. She's just started a Youtube channel too, so I'm looking forward to that. Another great Youtuber is Sammi from BeautyCrush, she's similar to Essie and has great content.

What has been your favourite blogging moment to date?
The first 1000 views! It was pretty exciting to know that 1000 people had read my blog...and it's just going up and up!

What is your most prized nail polish/makeup item?
Nail Polish would be my Top 10 OPI pack! It has everything I need and I've gotten so much use out of it!! My makeup item would be my MAC lippies, so creamy and delicious, I just love the colours.

What's the weirdest beauty item you own?
Nothing in my collection is weird to me ha ha, but people seem to find my cuticle nippers weird... I think they freak people out more then anything!

Is there anything you regret NOT buying?
A YSL lippy, I've been obsessing over it forever!! I will get it one day they are just so hard to track down in New Zealand.

Tell me about your best beauty bargain.
My Elf Matte Lip Cream for $3.00, it's amazing! Probably all my ELF make up actually. There is duds in the range but there is also some great products that are such bargains.

Is there a makeup/polish purchase you really regret?
Probably my Lioele BB Cream, there was such much hype so I brought it but it's not all it's cracked up to be!

What is your biggest lemming?
The YSL lippy I talked about earlier! Look up YSL Rouge Volupte 13 Peach and you'll know exactly what I mean... GORGEOUS!!

What has been your biggest beauty blunder?
It would have learning winged liner, when I look back on photos I used to do a terrible job of it. It takes such a long time to great it right and shape it so it works for your eye shape. Definitely trial and error.

Do you have a go to make up look/mani?
My everyday make up look is winged eyeliner and a nude lip, it's classic and I think it suits every occasion. I've recently done a blog post on it here and for my nails, I have a gel nail set up at home and I'm really fussy with my own! They are always either a French gel manicure or one block colour with no glitter or detail. I love them to be plain and simple.
