MUA Pretty Pastels Palette - Swatches & Review

MUA
Hey lovelies,

Today I have swatches and a review of MUA's Pretty Pastels palette to share with you. It was the palette I was most excited for when placing my last big order with MUA, but unfortunately it just wasn't love for me. The colours aren't hugely pigmented and they have a tendency to muddy together when blended.

The packaging is sleek plastic, nothing too fancy, but it houses the eyeshadows securely. The palette comes with a double tipped sponge applicator, which I don't use but others may find useful.

Swatched on bare arm, no primer

Shade 1 - Barely shows up at all. Off-white with pink flash - it looked so promising in the pan, like MAC's Pink Opal pigment!
Shade 2 - Baby pink shimmer.
Shade 3 - Medium brown shimmer. I thought this shade would work well as a defining shade to add some dimension to a pastel eye look, but these shades blend together and look muddy.
Shade 4 - Silvery green shimmer.
Shade 5 - Ice blue shimmer.
Shade 6 - Lavender shimmer.
Shade 7 - Pale chartreuse shimmer
Shade 8 - Sherbet orange shimmer.
Shade 9 - Pale aqua shimmer. Shows up more silvery-white when applied.
Shade 10 - Lilac shimmer. Looks closer to Shade 6 in the pan, but as you can see, it swatches much paler.
Shade 11 - Candy pink shimmer.
Shade 12 - Silver shimmer.

The MUA Pretty Pastels palette retails for £4 and is available on their website here. They do ship internationally.

Korean Polish Spam #2

Hey lovelies,

I have a rather hefty Korean polish spam post for you today... and there are still more Korean pretties to swatch in my untried box!

If you're hunting for more Korean polish swatches, you can find my previous spam post here.

Innisfree #123, 3 coats

Awesome formula and opacity! I blame Grace at Polish Armoire for making me need this one :D

Etude House Dear My Party Nails - PPP503 Celeb Girl, 3 coats

These Korean brands do the glitter and crelly base thing so well. Another one with a great formula and glitter distribution.

Tonymoly GT04 Neptune, 2 coats

I've still got to try this one with top coat, but it's so lovely already! Amazing opacity.

Sparitual - Emerald City, 4 coats
+
Innisfree #107 - Libra, 2 coats

Still looking for the perfect base colour for Libra. It's such a stunning glitter with a great formula.

Catrice - Run Forest Run, 3 coats + Kleancolor - Pearl Jungle, 1 coat
+
Innisfree #109 Cassiopeia, 2 coats

I must layer Cassiopeia over a darker base, it has gorgeous iridescent glitter that wants to come out to play! Lovely formula, if a little sparse.

Aritaum Modi #81 Wild Strawberry, 3 coats

I feel like this is a little too glitter dense for my tastes, but the formula is great. I might try one coat over a pink creme next time.

Innisfree #91, 3 1/2 coats

Gah, sorry about my index nail peelies! Lovely yellow with contrasting green shimmer which is unfortunately a little shy on the nail. Pretty standard formula for a yellow.

Color Club - Winter Affair, 3 coats + Tonymoly GR17 Devil Kiss, 1 coat

Star Kin - Purple Haze, 3 coats
+
Etude House If Nail Story Kit #1 - Halloween Witch, 1 coat

I wasn't really sure whether I'd like this polish on, but it's a stunner! The glitter pay off is great, you could get it opaque on its own but I chose to layer it over Purple Haze since the base colour was a perfect match.

Etude House RD302 Ruby Red Sand - 2 coats

Promo pictures for this looked like it would be a lot darker :( This is a very close match for OPI The Impossible, sans stars.

China Glaze - Red Satin, 2 coats
+
Tonymoly GR18 Ice Dance, 2 coats

Great glitter distribution, no fishing required here!

Etude House Ice Cream Nails BE101 Banana - 3 1/2 coats

Still hunting for the perfect yellow! I think this one would perform better if I used a ridge filler first.

Peripera RD705 - 4 coats

This is super cute, but quite sheer.

Peripera P031 Sky Blue - 3 coats

Pretty sky blue shimmer, ever so slightly streaky but I forgive it because it's so lovely to look at! Dries with a soft floral scent too.

Peripera P031 Sky Blue - 3 coats
+Etude House Dear My Party Nails PPP502 Purple Romance, 1 coat

Great glitter distribution!

Star Kin - Cashmere, 3 coats
+
Missha Swing Petal #3 Violet Petal, 2 coats

This is the first of the currently trendy feather/bar glitter polishes I've really gone gaga over. The base is a little thick, but the colours are so gorgeous! I don't think you could ever get this opaque on its own, but I prefer these polishes layered so I'm fine with that.

Etude House Dear My Party Nails - OR202 Peach Shower, 3 coats

Drop dead gorgeous colour, but a little streaky.

Etude House Dear My Party Nails - OR202 Peach Shower, 3 coats
+
Etude House Dear My Party Nails - OR203 Coral Party, 1 coat

A little bit of fishing required for glitter here, but a really pretty polish.

Etude House Dear My Party Nails - PP501 Violet Sherbet, 3 coats

This purple creme has a brightness that's pretty unique in my collection! Great smooth formula.

Etude House Dear My Party Nails - PP501 Violet Sherbet, 3 coats
+
Modi #163 Electric Lavender, 1 coat

This Modi glitter is so darn cute! Great glitter distribution, the base is just enough thick enough to suspend the polish without being goopy. I love that it has the secret shimmer typical of Lynnderella polishes too.

Star Kin - Red Shift Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

I have another beauty from Star Kin to share with you today! It's Red Shift by Star Kin, a dusty brown-leaning burgundy with gold duochrome and holographic sparkle.

3 coats in full sunlight, no top coat. Look at that holo sparkle! I love that Red Shift looks beautiful indoors already, but when you get it out in sunlight, BAM!

Shade

Look at that pretty gold/brown shift!

The formula on Red Shift is very easy to work with, three coats was enough for opacity. Like Gold Rush, it's not a duochrome that requires layering, or for you to hold your tongue (or your fingers!) the right way to see the colour shift. It dries to a lovely glossy finish on its own too, I'm not wearing top coat in these pictures.

You can buy Star Kin polish here, and follow the Star Kin blog for updates here.

Red Shift was provided for my honest review by Star Kin. I was not compensated for this review, my opinions are my own.

New Additions

Hey lovelies,

Have you had a good week? Did you get much treasure? The assault on my letterbox is slowly lessening as I start saving for Christmas holidays, but I still have some goodies to share :)

I'm really loving Korean eyeliners at the moment, the lasting power and pigmentation is pretty great! Here's Peri's Smoothie Pencil Liner Kit #2 Holistic from Peripera, a limited edition set I snagged on Ebay from this seller. They also generously included several face masks, which I'm excited to try.

I got my latest Star Kin order! From left to right, Aqua Entropy (for review), Cashmere, Iri, Blogiversary x2, I <3 Hades, Challenge Accepted, Flock Together (for review) and Red Shift (for review). As usual, Ami included yummy candy, glitter and nail spangles! She is such a sweetheart.

Nature Republic Provence Blossom Blusher #1 Pink and samples arrived from glory-yp on Ebay. The packaging is so gorgeous!

Missha Dazzling #7 arrived from f2plus1 on Ebay, along with generous samples.

I also got my final Roseroseshop order from my recent binges :D Not all of this is for me this time, I'm putting together something special for a friend. I got:

Missha Sweet Polish Remover
It's Skin Rose Blossom Multi Blusher
It's Skin Rose Blossom Tint Lipstick - Neon Pink
Etude House Vivid Pop Stick - Kissing You
Etude House Cupcake All Over Color - Orange Shoe Cake

I hauled lots of pretties from Juliet in our polish group. Lots of Essie minis for myself and to gift, and China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy, Essence Color & Go - Miss Universe and Layla Ceramic Effect - Killing Red. Gahhh that Layla is to die for!

Danielle from Domesticminxes and I did a partial swap - she sent me Australis Velour Lips in MAL-I-BOO from the current Girlfriend magazine promotion, since I couldn't find this colour, and I sent her a copy of the Instyle issue that came with Napoleon goodies.

I also went shopping on Thursday at Uncle Bills and Postie. I grabbed L'Oreal Project Runway quads in The Temptress' Gaze and The Muse's Gaze for around $8 each at Uncle Bills along with Revlon Moon Candy - Orbit ($3.50!). At Postie I took advantage of their 2 for $12 promo on Hello Kitty items, grabbing the mascara, Shop Teal You Drop polish and Shimmer Dusts in Dappled and Fern Believer. Also my workmate Alice gave me OPI Mod About You to play with as it has thickened and she thought it could be handy for frankening.

Finally, I got Zoya Neely, Femme Fatale Mana Ruby, Emily de Molly Harmony and Femme Fatale Star's Lament from Lisa in our polish group, who was having an epic destash. My first ever Aussie indies! I'm so excited to have a play with them.

Thanks for stopping by!

Napoleon Perdis November Instyle Magazine Gift With Purchase - Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

As I mentioned in Friday's post, this month's Instyle magazine comes with a Napoleon Perdis make up set. Today I have a review and swatches to help you decide whether you want to hunt out a copy or not!

The set comes with a creme blush, a lipgloss and a mascara - all full size.

The mascara comes in glossy black tube with a spiralled bristle brush.

Lashes To Lashes mascara provides decent definition and lift for my lashes. I tested it over the course of a day and didn't have any trouble with flaking or black marks under my eyes at the end of the day, so I was very pleased with that! Removal is also very easy with regular make up remover.

***

The creme blush comes in a clear compact with a mirror, very handy!

The creme blush has a lovely soft, blendable texture. It has a satin finish, so you don't have to worry about oily looking cheeks.

***

Now for the lipgloss! It comes in a decent sized tube with a doefoot applicator. I've had problems with my tube; the stopper keeps coming out so now and then when I open it the wand has been completely suspended in the gloss and is literally dripping gloss. It's a bit of a nuisance, but these things happen - and it was free! Others I know who have picked up this set haven't had this problem.

The lipgloss is a sheer light peach with very subtle shimmer. I did find that it settled into lip lines a bit, as you can see, but this isn't noticeable at a normal viewing difference. The formula has a smooth formula with slight tackiness typical of most lipglosses - it's certainly not as sticky as MAC glosses, for example. The gloss has a sweet candy-like scent I can't quite place but seems familiar. Toffee apple maybe? I really must ask at a Napoleon counter sometime, it's been bugging me for years with my other Napoleon gloss that I can't place the scent!

Here's a FOTD I did over the weekend featuring all three products. You can find the full look here.

Two things I would have liked to see with this set - names for the blush and lipgloss, and for the items to be available for repurchase at the Napoleon counter. These items appear to have been manufactured specifically for the promotion, so if you really love one of these products unfortunately you won't be able to buy another - once it's gone, it's gone.

I'm really glad I picked up this set! I've been hunting out other copies of Instyle for friends over the past few days as they seem to be selling out quickly - if you like the look of this set, pop out and snag it quickly!

Thanks for stopping by!
