L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow - Gleaming Bronze Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

At a recent importer's clearance sale I picked up my first L'oreal Infallible eyeshadow. I've swatched these many times in stores, but I'm not the biggest fan of L'oreal, or their prices here - I believe these retail for around $25 here - so I always held off. Until I found this baby for $9, that is. Then it was mine all mine!

This is #408 Gleaming Bronze, aka Bronze Goddess (UK/other) or Bronze Divine (Canada). MACnunu has a fantastic masterlist of the Infallible eyeshadows and their various names in different countries here, I encourage you to check it out!

Gleaming Bronze reads very green to me, although it looks more brown next to a true green. It's a very pretty shade.

All Infallible eyeshadows come in a sturdy plastic 3.5g jar. The name and product information is printed on top of the jar, and the underside of the jar is transparent so that you can see the colour. I really like that, it means you can see at a glance whether it's the colour you want without having to open each jar to check. Inside there is a plastic stopper to tamp down the product with. The eyeshadow itself is very dense and soft, so it's good to have the stopper to keep it in place.

Gleaming Bronze has fantastic opacity and is packed with shimmer. Although the product is somewhat loose, I didn't have any issues with fall out - it was very easy to work with. I found patting it on the lid with a dense shader brush to be a good method to avoid fall out. Patting instead of swiping helps to keep the colour intense too.

I used Gleaming Bronze for a FOTD last week, and while it didn't wear for the 24 hours it claims on the packaging (which let's face it, is a bit excessive!), it did very well. I got 6 hours wear over primer without any creasing, which is great for me - I have oily lids and everything creases on me pretty quickly.

Overall, I'm thrilled with this product and have been adding other Infallible shades to my wishlist - Golden Emerald and Cosmic Black are calling my name!

Have you got any Infallible eyeshadows? Do you like them?

MUA Undress Me Too Palette - Swatches & Review

MUA
Hey lovelies,

I've been using this palette regularly over the last month or so and I have to say, it is honestly my favourite MUA palette of the stacks I have hauled recently. It has knocked my previous favourite, Heaven & Earth, from the top spot!

Undress Me Too is touted as a dupe for the ever popular Naked 2 palette by Urban Decay. I can't comment on that as I don't have the UD palette, but there are plenty of bloggers who have posted side by side swatches and comparisons. This palette will do me just fine for now, and being a fraction of the cost (£4 on MUA's website) is the cherry on top.

The packaging is sleek plastic, nothing too fancy, but it houses the eyeshadows securely. It is different from other MUA palettes in that it is white, instead of black - I think it makes for a nice change and actually prefer the white (although it's harder to photograph!). The palette comes with a double tipped sponge applicator, which I don't use but others may find useful.

Naked - Matte pale cream. Like many mattes, this shade swatches poorly, but performs better on the lid. I like using this to blend out other eyeshadows.
Devotion - A gold leaning brown shimmer. Just gorgeous.
Shy - Great pale gold (looks a little silvery here!) which works well as a highlight shade.
Fiery - Rich copper shimmer, great opacity.
Lavish - Matte taupe. Unfortunately this is incredibly sheer and difficult to build up, although it does blend well.
Dreamy - Golden brown shimmer. Darker and more gold leaning than Tranquil.
Tranquil - Lovely cool toned medium brown shimmer. This is a great all rounder, I use it as a lid shade as a wash, or in the crease and on the lower lashline with a lighter shade on the lid.
Exposed - Medium taupe shimmer. Great as a lid shade, and just brown enough to keep me from looking washed out.
Reveal - Pale taupe shimmer - much lighter than it appears in the pan.
Wink - Medium brown shimmer. Great on the lid or in the crease, this is an all rounder.
Obsessed - Deep umber shimmer which leans a little taupe when swatched. Blends out well.
Corrupt - Matte black. This is perfectly usable, but not as opaque as the black found in the Glamour Nights palette.

As with the Heaven & Earth palette, I found pigmentation to be excellent on the whole. The only shade I experienced difficulty with was Lavish, . The shades blend well (even Lavish, when I got it to show up!) and with a good primer, I didn't notice any fading. There was minimal creasing at the end of the day, but I blame that on my very oily lids and the air conditioning in our office rather than the eyeshadows.

Overall, I think this palette is pretty darn fantastic and would recommend it to anyone wanting to build a good collection of neutrals. A must if you enjoy shimmery nudes.

Color Club Halo Hues 2013 - Kismet Swatches, Comparisons & Review

Hey lovelies,

Today I have my final polish from Color Club's 2013 Halo Hues collection to show you. It's Kismet!

First a little bit about the different packaging on the Halo Hues polishes: the caps are silver and look like brushed steel, but I think they are actually plastic. The silver caps make them look special, like the silver cap China Glazes in my collection.

All the Halo Hues I have tried (Eternal Beauty and Miss Bliss being the other two) have great formulas. Kismet built up in 3 easy coats. It was a little thicker than other holos I've used, but I do prefer a formula to err on the side of thickness - less messy cuticle flooding! I tested the wear with Kismet and found it wore just like a normal polish with no special base coat or topcoat sandwiching required. There was minimal chipping after 3 days, in fact it wore better than the other polishes I used for my skittlette mani!

Extra for experts: comparison time!

I didn't actually have any other green holos in my collection, so my friend PJ was kind enough to lend me her bottle of L8R G8R for comparing. I also grabbed my bottle of GR8 to compare, since Kismet is described by Color Club as a gold holo, but as you can see they're nothing alike!

Index: China Glaze GR8, 3 coats
Middle & Pinky: Color Club Kismet, 3 coats
Ring: China Glaze L8R G8R, 3 coats

L8R G8R and Kismet look closer in the bottle but on the nail the different breeds of holographic sparkle take over, and Kismet becomes much more silvery. The holo effect in L8R G8R is much tighter and more linear while Kismet is somewhere inbetween linear and scattered. GR8 is on a whole other playing field. No dupes here!

I hope this was helpful. Did you pick anything up from the Halo Hues collections? I still want Beyond :)

Kismet was kindly provided by Color Club NZ for my consideration. I was not asked to provide a review or paid to feature it. My opinions are my own.

Provocative Pink + NOTD

Hey lovelies,

How is your week going so far? I have been swatching in every available bit of sunshine to try and clear out my untried polishes and destash. I have 104 untrieds at the moment :s

Yesterday I dug through my stash and found some YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick samples I've had for a while. I really must buy more Rouge Voluptes, I love the samples along with the only fullsize one I have - #27 Rose Paris. I have samples of #1 Nude Beige, #10 Provocative Pink and #17 Red Muse. I chose Provocative Pink yesterday.

I was in a flakie kind of mood, so chose one of my untried Nfu Ohs. The flakies aren't as dense as say, Essie Shine of the Times, but I really like this polish. It's got a beautiful blue microshimmer - or perhaps tiny glassflecks? - running through the base which ups the wow factor. That shimmer is lost against the sparkle of Blue By You though, I'll have to try it over black soon!

Do you like flakies? Have you tried any Nfu Ohs?
Thanks for stopping by!

FOTD & NOTD Catch Up

Hey lovelies,

Another week has begun and I'm behind on FOTDs and NOTDs as usual :p Time for a catch up!

On Wednesday I opted for pink lips and nails to go with my new bunting necklace. I also dug out my MAC in Lillyland pearlmatte eyeshadow trio, which is pretty in the plan but rarely gets used. Applying it reminded me why - I was seriously underwhelmed! It's so very sheer and the colour doesn't build. Son, I am disappoint.

Sticking with the girly pink theme, on nails I wore Nostalgic Lacquer - The Princess. Four easy coats + Seche Vite. Three coats looked good, but I added a fourth for complete opacity. Such a gorgeous polish.

On Thursday I took my new L'Oreal Infallible out for a whirl, opting for a soft khaki smokey eye. I really liked this look!

On my nails I wore a Franken of mine, A Million Balloons. I used 3 coats here but 2 were pretty good. I'd like to get some Glitter Food from Nail Pattern Boldness to suspend the glitter in this polish better, it needs a lot of shaking at the moment! I made this about a year ago with China Glaze Bahamian Escape, OPI Rainbow Connection and some of the MAC Reflects glitters - Blue and Transparent Teal, I think. That's the subtle shimmer you can see in the sunlight if you look carefully!
I added bows from Born Pretty Store. Michaela over at Nail Polish Anon posted an absolutely stunning mani with these a while back and I fell head over heels in love. I wore this mani for several days, which is a lot for me! Initially I stuck the bows on with Seche Vite, but it wasn't strong enough to withstand everyday activities with a toddler, so I stuck them back on with nail glue. They stayed firmly in place after that, and I received lots of compliments on this mani. Now I want to get lots more pretty bows and 3D decorations!

On Friday I opted for a smokey taupe brown eye look and red lips - always a great pick me up lip colour!

On Saturday I was feeling bright coral so I rolled with it. My spikey necklace got some love too! I forgot to apply primer though, and really noticed the difference in application. So much easier covering up blemishes with a primer down first.

To go with the coral and mustard/gold outfit, I did some fiery nails! This is 2 easy coats of Cerise from Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure line, with 2 dabbed coats of OPI Oy-Another Polish Joke. I really liked how these nails came out - I'm still wearing them, in fact!

This Week's Haul & Mail

Hey lovelies,

Thanks for bearing with me over the past couple of days. I wasn't really up to posting with Felix's loss.

Mail was sparse this week and most of it can't be shared as the things that arrived are birthday gifts for my sister and my sister in law too! But I did haul a few things while shopping this week, so this is temporarily This Week's Haul instead of This Week's Mail!

On Thursday I went to an importer's clearance sale and picked up lots of pretties - although I was pretty restrained considering the other goodies I wanted to grab! Left to right, we have China Glaze Glam-More - one of their glitter crackles, Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Lapis Amethyst, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Cerise, OPI Oy Another Polish Joke, LA Girl Rockstar Addict and L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Gleaming Bronze (which is more khaki than bronze, but whatever).

I also popped into Uncle Bill's and picked up this Covergirl mascara, Lashblast Luxe in Black Emerald. I had a tube of the original Lashblast a few years ago which I really liked, so I'm looking forward to trying this. Uncle Bill's have a small selection of Covergirl mascaras for $7 a piece at the moment, so if there's a store near you I encourage you to take a peek.

Noel also scored some goodies on Thursday - Postie Plus were having a 50% off kids' gear sale, so he got a dinosaur hoodie and 3 pairs of dino socks. At least half that kid's wardrobe is dinosaur themed, haha.

On Friday a new pair of jeans arrived from Glassons. Once again I am really impressed with the ease of ordering on their online site, and their efficiency. I ordered the tube leg spray on jeans, which also come in Grey Wash and Black, and I really like them. They're comfy and fit well, and they were a bargain at the sale price of $30. I think I may order the Grey Wash ones in the same style next pay.

I also received one hundred more swatch sticks on Friday. I've got so many now!!

And I returned to the importer's clearance hoping they had restocked and that I would find OPI's Lights of Emerald City, I Theodora You or Stay the Night. I was out of luck but in a spendy mood after finding out about Felix, so I picked up China Glaze Gleam Me Up and LA Girl Glitter Addict Euphoria - both polishes from my wishlist. Now to find the remaining China Glaze glitter crackles! They will be mine.

Finally on Saturday this adorable tea cup and saucer ring arrived. Sadly it is too small for all of my fingers except my pinkies - which it is too big for! I will have to find a new home for it.

What did you haul this week? Did you get much mail? Thanks for reading and commenting!

Felix. [PICTURE HEAVY]

Hey lovelies,

I hope your week has been wonderful. Sadly mine ended on a sour note as our kitten Felix was hit by a car on Friday morning.

I was awoken to pounding on the door at 8AM that morning. A man from down the road was standing there holding little Felix's body by the tail and immediately began to scream at me: "Is this your cat?!" I immediately started to cry in shock and horror because Felix was gone, and the man continued to yell abuse at me, telling me to "sort my sh*t" and various other obscenities while I told him through my tears that he needed to leave. Eventually he did leave after hurling more abuse at me, throwing poor Felix down on our porch and storming off. I was so upset I couldn't even think what to do, I just shut the door quickly and ran to call Mike. I couldn't even tell him what had happened for a few minutes, I was so upset I was just a babbling mess. I got there in the end though, and he said he would try to come home. Then I called my brother (who literally ran to my house from several suburbs away - what a legend!) and Noel grabbed my phone and accidentally called my sister, who came over too after Noel let me have the phone and I explained what had happened.

Soon Mike and my brother and sister were at the house helping to distract and comfort Noel and I. Mike buried Felix in the garden. I still can't believe what happened with that man, it's surreal. A friend suggested he may have been so upset at what had happened to the cat and had an odd way of expressing it - I think perhaps they are on to something there. I'd like to believe the man had a genuine concern for Felix and that his expression of this was off rather than this being just a deliberate act of cruelty. Regardless of where he was coming from, the way he expressed himself was incredibly cruel, and the way he held our Felix was hugely disrespectful, both to us and to Felix.

I know a lot of my new followers have come via the Spring Essentials Giveaway and I do apologise that one of the first posts of mine that you may be seeing is so depressing. But blogs are for sharing, and I wanted to share this. Felix was just a little guy, only 6 months old. He and Noel were best friends. He was only with our family for a short time, but he was a treasured and loved family member and will be missed.

Rest in peace, Felix. I look forward to showing Noel photos of you as he grows and reminding him of his fuzzy little best friend.

Here are some photos of Felix I'd like to share.

He was such a sweet, mischievous little kitten.

*

Although he doesn't look thrilled here, Felix was fond of hopping in the shower with us.

*

I often found Noel and Felix sleeping together, whether on the couch, snuggled against Mike or in Noel's bed.

*

He had amazing patience with Noel.

*

He loved playing tug of war.

*

And sleeping!

*

He also loved to play outside with Noel.

*

And to catch the last of the morning sun.

Thanks for stopping by. Tomorrow's post will be more cheerful, I promise!
